my boss gave me something to do, I listened to him took it in but when i did it i missed something out, he is now blaming me for something, i did something else i must of got it wrong, is it my epilepsy or depression, what do i do, i'm on a waiting list to see a councilor i want to change my meds, i'm not having fits so the nurse nor the doctor wants to change them, can i beg? i'd rather have 1 fit a month than be like this all my life. my boss sees potential in me (i think he's the only that sees it, I can't) he just sent a guy who helps me in work to come and see me. I want to says something but i think its too disturbing to say on here. I don't know what to do

Hey benjw910,

You're dealing with more than one issue, which is tricky.

Issue #1 is letting your boss know that your seizures/meds/depression may be temporarily interfering with how you perform your job. If you can get a note from your doctor explaining how the seizures manifest, that would probably help your boss understand. If you don't feel comfortable letting your boss and colleagues know, then you need to do your best to prevent the seizures from happening again.

Which brings us to Issue #2:

Issue #2 is getting re-evaluated to see if you are having seizures or med side effects. A good way to get your doc's attention is by keeping a seizure diary, so you get a sense of how often you're having spells and/or making unusual mistakes. You might also discover in the process things that might be triggering your seizures, like fatigue or stress. Your doc should be able to help evaluate whether seizures, meds, and/or depression have caused the problems at work that you describe. Be persistent! Keep calling the doc to get an appointment! And in the meantime, be as proactive as possible about eliminating possiblw seizure triggers, getting plenty of sleep, eating a balanced diet, staying hydrated, etc. If neurofeedback's an option you might want to look into that as well.

What would you like to say on here? you know that you can always PM a moderator who can help you the best they can and advise whether the the thing you'd like to post is appropriate.

Also, tell your boss. and maybe print out a list of side effects for the meds you are on and the E in itself can affect memory and function. You dont have to tell anyone else, but your boss should know. he seems like a really understanding guy. Just let him know that you are really good with challenges and would be willing to take on any that he needs you to.

I'm so sorry you are going through this. It's so hard to deal with seizures, meds, and work. You may want to tell your boss about your epilepsy, if you think he will be understanding and help with the situation.

Are you in the United States? If so, it's the law that your workplace has to make "reasonable accomodations" to help you perform your job, due to your seizures and/or meds. Here's a link that explains reasonable accomodations.

http://www.epilepsyfoundation.org/living/wellness/employment/accommodation.cfm

That doesn't mean that they forget about mistakes, but it does mean they help you put job aids in place that help you, like checklists, the chance to be alone and rest after a seizure, instructions in writing, etc.

If you have a neurologist, he/she can also help with a list of accomodations, or might have more ideas for you.

We also decided that an occasional seizure was far better than daily being drugged up and causing more medical problems.

Since making nutritional changes, seizures have been progressively less frequent.
