I don't know if you guys read my last couple of posts on my previous thread, but I had another seizure this morning. I haven't been feel well since my las one, so it wasn't a huge surprise but it was a huge concern because I have NEVER had 2 in one week, even since this started. The MOST I have ever had is three in one month.

Well, I still feel wonky from the one this morning and just a few minutes ago I started feeling weird--cold, like there was vicks all over me--and my heart started to pound and my head fellt like pressure was building up. The same kind of pressure I get right before a seizure.

I'm probably making a mountain out of a molehill, but I'm scared!! What do I do?

The best

thing to do is to get yourself to a safe place, stay as calm as possible, and then just go with the flow. If it happens, it happens; if it doesn't, it doesn't.

While that may sound a bit harsh, it's true. Sometimes you can find a way to stop them, or at least some people say that they can. But for now, I think that's your best bet.

My doctor recently put me on 2 anti depressants--I'm D/Cing one of them because I think it's what's been causing me to have so many seizures. But I'm scared it may have made them worse. I only get partials, but I'm worried the medication may have changed something in my head. D:

I have a few Ativan for emergencies. But I'm concerned it may interact with one of my other meds and make things worse. Do you think it would be safe to take one?

Go to

www.drugs.com and cross check it on the interaction tab first before you do so. If it's OK with the meds, then I would, yeah.

In fact, it says all of my drugs interact badly with one another.

It specifically mentions that the combination of my two anti depressants can make seizures worse. D:

Then DON'T

USE IT.

AND CALL YOUR DOCTOR FIRST THING IN THE MORNING. Be specific about what's going on, and tell them what you found about the interaction of Ativan with the other meds. Print it out for them if necessary. And ask your pharmacist to back you up as well. They should have said something *scratching head*

I know, and this doctor prescribed ALL FOUR of the medications I'm on right now. He supposedly has is degree in psychiatry and neurology. And yet all of the medications he prescribed, when combined, make seizures worse and they don't necessarily even treat depression effectively. I have an appointment with him this upcoimng Friday, but right now my main concern is not having a seizure. I'm almost in tears I'm so scared.

Imho

have the pharmacist call and say--these interact, and the patient is scared. What can I give her instead?

Something that they should have done prior, but ASK them to do it. See what happens.

Good idea. Thanks!!

Not sure how that will work, though, because the doctor who prescribed them is a psychiatrist who works in an office with several others. I'm not too familiar with the medical world... or the "grown-up" world in general, being only 19.

This is

where you have to begin to learn, unfortunately. He may work in a group practice--and this could be a good thing. If HE's not going to listen to you, maybe one of his partners will.

If he's unavailable to talk to at sometime, ask to have a message left for one of the on call docs, and get their advice about the meds. I'm sure they'll have something to say to you--and probably him as well. And if that means taking notes when you're on the phone, do so!

You might also want to look him up in the Medicall Information Directory for your state--see what his record's like. If he has any major complaints against him.

Be prepared to stand up for yourself--this is part of growing a backbone, in the "real" world, sadly enough. But you'll do fine, I'm sure.

Good luck!

If you call the pharmacy like meetz1064 said to do I can almost guarantee it will work. A lot of times Doctors prescribe something to treat a symptom, knowing it CAN cause side effects which include seizures. So since you are having seizures with these meds your Dr. needs to change them. If he doesn't then I would go to a different doctor tomorrow.

I don't know about a group practise, but there are lots of offices for the different psychiatrists and they share secretaries (they usually have two secretaries working the desk, but they change daily, and the two secretaries make appointments for all the doctors there.)

Thanks so much for your help. I don't think this is going to escalate into anything major, but I'm still going to be very cautious. I still feel cold, and my stomach still feels like butterflies, but the heart-pounding has mostly gone away. I'm going to go to bed early, I think. That should help.

Thanks for your advice. If he doesn't change them, be sure I will go to a different doctor, but not before having some harsh words. Like "you" and "are" and.... "a jerk!" :soap:

Yvw

I think I'm going to try to go back to bed myself. Something woke me up here, and kept me up for a while, so I got on the board to calm myself down. :)

Sleep tight.

Sorry to hear that. I definitely agree that things get scary when they don't go as planned. I hate when my seizures change. Sadly I find that they are drastically different on each med, so I never know what to expect.

I hope you are well.

Literophile --how are you feeling today?

Just so you know, Lorazepam is often prescribed for seizure control, but not for long-term use. I'm on Lamictal for long-term seizure control, but my neurologist wrote me a scrip for a small amount of Lorazepam for when I was traveling outside the country -- for emergency use just in case I had a seizure, and wasn't near a hospital.

Funny that you metioned that you felt cold the one I had before the last one on the 10th of January I mentioned that to my husband that I felt cold and right after that full blown gran mal like i usually have. As far as I know that is the only time i have been known to have an aura of any kind. Usually I have no warning just drop like a rock and hope i am in a safe place and don't hurt myself.

Literophile,

I'm so sorry you are going through all this. It's going to be okay. <<<<<BIG HUGS>>>>>

I agree about calling your pharmacist and voicing your concerns. Most pharmacists will call your doctor, explain the interactions, and work with your doctor to find an alternative. Mine is great about that. My doc often prescribes something that is related to a drug I'm allergic to, and has an X% chance of me going into analphylactic shock. So she calls my doc and they figure something else out for me. I find out when I go in to pick up my prescription...lol...

You have been unhappy with your doctor for a really long time. If for nothing other than inner peace (not to mention better care), maybe it's time to switch doctors?
