Hey,

Sometimes I get strange moments when nothing makes sense at all, for example, someone will be talking to me, but I wont have a clue what they're saying. I am listening, but it's like they're talking french! the words just don't seem to make sense. I'll have to ask them to repeat themselves a few times just to understand. It's not the same as going into my own little world, when I'm just not listening, because I am listening! Also I'll be reading something and the words are just overwhelming and again, don't make sense the first couple of times I read them (I'm not dyslexic either, I'm a keen reader and would have noticed!)

I don't think I'm having a seizure, but could it be related to epilepsy? Also this has been happening for a while, definitely before I started my medication, so it can't be that.

Any ideas?

Are you by chance overloaded with "Stuff". I have read that you can only hold about seven thoughts / ideas / useful pieces of information in your brain at any given moment. Perhaps you are just expecting too much of yourself.

I don't have epilepsy, but I do have that sensation with reading occasionally. I think my brain is racing far too much so that I can't process any more.

Just a thought

Though it could be seizure activity as well. You might share this with your neurologist

I guet that

There have been a lot of days when I've come to this site but had trouble reading any post more than a few lines, I even those were a challenge.

I've found that it's usually when I'm tired or overloaded (like Robin said) from stress that this happens.

Occasionally it happens post ictally but not always.

The episodes could very possibly be simple partial seizures.

Hmmm, Now I'm even more confused lol!

I actually agree with everyone! I think the reading thing may be, as RobinN and epileric say, could be an overload of info. It has happened much more than usual lately and lately I have been overloaded with thoughts etc.

But the I agree with Bernard to after reading his links, especially with the hearing thing. Someone could say something as simple as 'how are you' but it just wont register, yet I can hear them. Hmmm, maybe it's both. Maybe it could be a simple partial due to being overloaded (if that is possible!) :ponder:

Oh no, now I've given myself more to think about:roflmao: oops!

Well, that explains ME after I've had a mini-seizure. I can sit here for ages afterwards reading the screen, and none off it makes sense at all.

I have been in the same boat, this is where
my Neurologists and Primary Doctors and
Specialists have a problem with in dealing
with me - because I have BOTH Neurological
AND Epilepsy problems ~ so how does one
know which end is up?

There are times it is a seizure, and then there
are times it's neurological. It can be downright
100% frustrating. I can totally understand you
completely. My brain doesn't grasp nor either
does it comprehend anything.

I could still be in a seizure stage, most likely
postictal; gradually coming out of it (seizure):
OR, I would be in 'malfunction junction' where
my brain just is not synchronization at all.

Even the "simplest basic commands or English"
as if spoken to a toddler, would all be completely
Foreign to me, I would not understand a word
they would be saying ...

Moreover, I want to add this:

1) They have attempted to WRITE things down,
and it resulted failure.

2) They have attempted to have someone come
and finger-spell or using sign language - which
also resulted failure.

In addition, they had reverted to pointing, and
sometimes I would recognize it, and sometimes
I would not, as if I had never seen it before in
my entire life!

Usually the ER / Neurologist would order up
the medication; usually Ativan - and either have
me admitted to the Neurology floor or under
Observation.

It is really FRUSTRATING ... when you come out
of it and they're telling you these things and you
are like ...

HUH???

Having no memory or recollection of any of
these events at all, insomuch, if I were to be
inquired to go into specific details; that I would
not be able to provide you with the exceptions
of what had been told to me.
