My daughter, 14, has simple partial seizures that affect her vision and motor control. She retains her conscienceness during a seizure, but is impaired. She was diagnosed a year and a half ago.

She is a cancer survivor too! leukemia --chemo and intrathecal treatments...she was diagnosed at age 19 months.

You may want to contact your nuerologist about reoccuring seizures.

Awesome that she is remission! How long has she been in remission. It's funny you should mention that i should call my doctor, because I just got off the phone talking to her asst. lol Do they think your daughter has seizures from the chemo?

You asked about seizure dogs. Some folks have wonderful dogs that are either:
- Seizure alert dogs who tell them when a seizure is about to happen, or
- Seizure assist dogs that help a person during and after a seizure. They might stay with the person, keep them from walking into the street, go for help, fetch water after a seizure, etc. They can also provide emotional support after a seizure.

My dog isn't an assistance animal, but he sure helps me. He doesn't warn me before a seizure, but he often tells me I've had a seizure after a complex partial. That's important because I don't always know I've had them. He jumps around really excited and howls. He isn't of much use during a seizure, even a fear seizure, because I'm too busy with whatever is happening at the time. But afterwards I'm often confused or scared and his warm body against me helps me get reoriented a lot faster. It's comforting, too.

I've been meaning to ask my doc about a note to designate him as a service animal so I can take him in places with me. It would be great. I had a fear seizure in the Target store last week, which was terrifying for me. Afterwards how I wished I had my dog near. It would have really helped.

... Does anyone here has "Alert Seizure Dogs"? Do they really work? I don't think I am going to try to get one, I am just curious about them and peoples reaction to them. onder:

How do you know if you are eligible (for south Texas)? It would be nice to know when one is coming specially when I am not at home. Do you have to talk to your doctor? I have tried just now to find a place in San Antonio, but I don't really see anything. Any ideas? I just want to know if its an option.
When i have a seizure, I lose the ability to talk. So sometimes when I am alone in public, people don't know that I've had one before and they call ems. Which is nice, but I really don't need one unless its a long one. I want to scream "I don't need one", but I can't move at all! Urgh, so frustrating. Again, nice for them to care about me instead of ignoring me, but it just causes more embarrassment.
