I am a 32 y.o. female who has offically been dx epilepsy since 2002 (in addition to diabetes the same day). I take trilepital for my seizures, which so far works pretty well for me. I also had a gr. grdma with epilepsy to, so her children were taken away due to the times. (meaning now in the same situation, they might not have been)

Welcome!!!!!

It's amazing how horrendous some people with epilepsy were treated.

I know that a low sugar level can cause somebody to have a seizure or go into a potential coma.

Do you treat your diabetes with medication? Or are you able to control it with a diet?

I take one medication right now...the diet thing is super hard for me, coupled with looking for employment.

Hi CPS! Welcome to CWE. :) We're a pretty friendly group, as you can see, so feel free to ask any questions, chime in with your experiences, or just vent as needed in the padded room. I'm hypoglycemic as well as having epilepsy. So I get to eat 6 times a day and watch my carb intake too. :)

I find it hard to watch the carbs...I am a bread and pasta person. I am not really watching them actually. Thanks for the welcome:)

Just curious.. would you be willing to watch them if it helped with seizure control?
We do tend to crave that which we are allergic to.

LOL...Robinn, last week I was craving sugar cookies...this week, it's cheetos....*sigh* No winning. :)

I simply would not classify those as food.
This experience in my life has made me do 180º turn around.

LOL...I agree, well as far as the cheetos are concerned. :) Sugar cookies...hmmm....when they are homemade it's awfully hard for me to see them as anything other then yummy. :) But I think that might be the pregnancy talking. :) As I normally don't eat dessert type foods. :)

Robin---I do not have many seizures, I will have my year anniversary this month, and before that was 4 years ago. I don't think the carb counting would help them...it would my diabetes. I just can't help it ---it is what I like. But I try and buy the wheat pasta now most of the time. That is why i can't wait to start bringing money in, so I can start buying better. Personally, I need a personal chef...lol

Hi

I have had epilepsy for 60 years now. I have had diabetes Type 2 for ? 12 years.

When I was diagnosed with diabetes, my neurologist told me that the two do not mix. If I do not keep my diabetes under control, then I have more seizures and vice a versa. Before I was diagnosed with diabetes, I had STATUS EPILEPTICUS. I have not had anymore status seizures since I was diagnosed with diabetes. So try to keep your diabetes under control and you will have fewer seizures.

CPS Welcome!

I am new here too. I was diagnosed with nocturnal seizures when I was 30. But they suspected that I might have had them for years.

I don't have many seizures either. The carbatrol keeps it under control. I am concerned about all my fractures. I have had 3 broken bones in the last 5 years and I worry that the Carbatrol might be causing it. I took Tegretol for 10 years and then the Carbatrol for 5 years.

I am sorry to hear what happened to your great grandma. That poor thing , it must have been awful for her!!!

Welcome Eve

You will feel welcome here. Since you are having a lot of fractures have you talked to your neurologist about it. You might be on the wrong meds for you. I am not saying you are but your seizures are not under control. Get a second opinion from another neurologist.
I use a walker. The first walker I had was 2 wheels. My husband saw a 4 wheeler and bought it for me. The 2 wheel ones have a tendency to tip over.

Welcome and glad to have you here.

It fell over on me one time and I broke my arm.

Feast I am going to see a different Doctor next week. I metioned my broken bones to my other Doctor and he suggested I switch over to Keppra. I am just not sure about his opinion so I want to talk to another doctor.

I had to use a walker after my knee surgery. I used the 4 wheels. It was a great help for me in learning to walk again. They had wanted me to use crutches! But I told them no way! The walker worked out just fine. Sorry to hear you broke your arm, what a PITA!

Thanks so much for the nice welcome! Anyone here take Trileptal?
