Hi everyone! Im Sam, Im new + just working out how to get about on here!! I love all the lil smilies etc!
I have temporal lobe epilepsy, I was diagnosed 12yr ago when I was 26. I was given a few different tabs that didnt really do much for me, some stopped the generalised seizures but I was still having cp's. Eventually I was offered surgery. I had right temporal lobe lobotomy 10yrs ago. Since then I have managed my ep with low doses of Keppra + tegratol.
I do however have depression + bppv (vertigo)!!! I also have auite a short fuse. I sit sometimes + wish for the 'old' sam back but life goes on hey + at least Im here + not having seizures!!!! xx
 
Hi Sambo, how long has it been since you had a seizure. And I'm new as well and I'm just floating around the website.
 
Welcome abord! I'm new also. All of the people ahve been great here. There is a lot of info and wonderful people to talk to. I've had auras for 7 years and didn't know what they were. I had my forst tonic-clonic 1 year ago and have been on carbamazepine ever since. 200mgs once daily.

You'll figure how to get around here pretty quick. Just accept a complimentary coffee :cheers: & look around. I'm sure you'll find the people here very friendly & helpful should you need it.

I had Keppra added to my Tegretol for a few months. I'm back to only being on Tegretol. I know I had a very short fuse from the Keppra but I'm told that Vit. B6 can help that.

Meanwhile look around, I know we've got a lot of threads re. both Keppra & Tegretol. Try the "search" option at the top of the page.

Hiya! Thankyou for the hint on the Keppra + vit B6!!!! I shall take that!! Im a true nightmare! Not bad tempered as such but I get really mad at people in silly ways + for silly reasons!! I let daft things get to me, ha + have terrible road rage!!!! I used to be a 'whatever' kinda person!! Chilled out etc!! Ha NOT NOW!! Thankyou again, I'll give it a try!!!!! x

Hi there! Thankyou for your reply!! I hope you are enjoying looking around on here! I think Im getting there now!!!!
I had my last generalised seizure 7yrs ago. so 3yr after the surgery. My last cp was 5yrs ago. I get the odd aura even now tho, but luckily it doesnt turn into anything. I just have to try not to panic!!
Things have been a lot better since I had the surgery regarding my seizures. I was told that it'd take about 12-18mths for the seizures to calm down after the surgery (3yrs it was but I'll let them off haha!!)

At 1 point I thought to myself 'ha I dont have ep anymore!!' + cut my meds right down (fool!!) then sure enough a couple of days later I had a cp!!! But 'only' a cp!! So of course I take my meds regularly again, altho they have been cut down quite a bit!!

How about you, is it you who has epilepsy or someone you know??
 
Hi Sam! Welcome to CWE. :) As you can see, a friendly group. You say that you are on Keppra and irritable at times...have you tried taking a vit. B6 supplement? Irritability is a possible side effect of Keppra, and B6 has been known to help some people on Keppra with that. :) Feel free to ask questions, chime in, or just vent in the padded room .

Hey I was similar to yourself I think, I had auras for a long time but didnt know what they were. My gp told me I was having panic attacks as I used to get butterflies + my ears would ring!!! After a couple of yrs of this I had one when I was driving when I lived in London. After that + approx 3mth of tests they diagnosed it as ep. Ha so much for my gp!!!!!
Wow thats good though, 200mg of carbamazepine. I hope you are able to keep it that way. Most people seem to be given that dont you think, I have always been on it but then have had other drugs added to it or taken away etc!!!
What happens when you get an aura? A lot of people say they get a funny taste, do you??

I suffer from horrible Kepprage. I've been taking my B's but, sometimes I just snap and i know that i will do something i will regret if I don't get my butt somewhere alone so I can stew for a while, then calm down after my incredibly short memory forgets why I was angry to begin with.
