Hi all, this looks like a good forum so I decided to join. I don't know if I've got epilepsy or not, but I've been having seizures. All tests came back clear (eg blood, MRI etc etc).

I had no idea these occasional 'weird feelings' I experienced were seizures until my boss saw me having a seizure at my desk at work.

I am now scared and worried about having future seizures. I will see the specialist sometime this week to find out exactly what's going on. I am on my lunch break at work and I feel very tense.

I've got to say that the people here are very supportive. It is great to hear from others that have been through the same thing.

I know as far as testing goes it isn't that unusual for people with seizures to not have anything show up on an EEG. I have had EEGs that came back "clean" though most didn't. Also they had no clue what caused my seizures until I was 39 when a lesion finally showed up on the MRI and I was born with my seizures.

Are you seeing a neurologist? If not I'd suggest you get one to get a more definite diagnosis.
 
No dear, not sometimes this weak, consult a neurologist as soon as possible! And dont u worry! Worry=stress=seziure. So kindly start having proper medication after going to the doctor. We all are here for u!
 
Thanks for your responses. I'm not stalling on seeing the specialist by the way, just waiting for the hospital to contact me about my appointment.


I will try not to worry in the meantime.

I know it doesn't seem like it, but it's lucky your boss saw you having a seizure. Otherwise it could have gone on for years more until you found out what was going on. What did your boss say she saw? Can you tell us more about your weird feelings?

I was scared silly when I first received my diagnosis of seizures. I imagine you are right now, too. The diagnosis process can be pretty stressful, especially during the times you have to wait between tests, and if you think your neurologist isn't doing a proper job. Have heart - we have all traveled this path and we are here to help you <<<big hug>>>.

Have you had an eeg yet? Even if you have, it is fairly common for EEGs to dome out normally for people who have partial seizures. That's especially true for people with temporal or frontal lobe epilepsy. The seizure could be happening too deep in the brain for an eeg to detect.

According to the book "Electroencephalography: basic principles, clinical applications.." false negatives can occur between 30-50% of the time. (Dig for the numbers, they occur in the reading, the table, and in further reading)

I too would like to know what your boss noticed taht you were not aware of....

sometimes people ask me if I have an accent, I do not think these are seizures, but maybe from the medicine???

They ask if I am from England or Ireland...and I am from new england, born and raised for several generations.
 
My boss said I threw my head back and was about to fall out of my chair. She came over to me to stop me from falling out of my chair and said I was shaking. She yelled in my ear several times but I did not respond. When I regained consciousness, she said 'you had a seizure!!'

I had the EEG scan, MRI, blood sugars, full blood count, liver function test (among others), urine test, reflex tests - pretty much everything, and all came up ok.
 
Hi vanessa, just wanted to add my welcome to the others!

Also -- some seizures originate too deep in the brain to show up on an EEG, so a negative EEG doesn't necessarily rule out an epilepsy diagnosis. The neurologist should be able to dicsuss a diagnosis with you, and what the next steps might be. Please feel free to ask questions here -- CWE members have "seen it all."

Oh whoops I haven't had an EEG yet - I got that confused with another test I had. I had the MRI, and another one where they measured blood flow to the brain - I mistakenly thought that was the EEG.
