Hi I;m 22 and have left temporal lobe epilepsy, I was diagnosed four years ago but have probably had it all my life or most of it at least. I don't have many seizures these days, its been cut down a lot since I increased my Keppra dosage and stopped taking Tegretol. However and this kind of interests me, I do wonder whether the fact that my left temporal lobe is damaged means that this affects my brain hemisphere, I do seem to have more right-hemisphere traits. This is a problem for me as I'm a philosophy student and logical and rational coherent thinking is key to the subject, I seem to struggle with a bit, also I tend to look at things holistically rather than bit by bit which is also not that helpful.
Anyway hello all.

Hi keen_eye, welcome to CWE!

The left temporal lobe is associated with language and speech-related memory, so it's damage to the area can potentially affect so-called "linguistic" skills. For an interesting look at left- vs. right- hemisphere abilities, I highly recommend that you check out the link below. It's a lecture by a brain researcher describing her own stroke as she experienced it. She describes what happens as one side of her brain becomes more dominant due to an aneurysm.

I hope you feel free to explore CWE and check out the different forums for posting, venting, chatting, etc.

Hello there

how's it going?

Just thought I'd stop by and say hi.

There's a lot of support here for you, and a number of other people here with TLE, too. I'm sure you're going to find some friends among them, and tons of information in the different rooms here in the forum.

The Kitchen and the Library are the best places to find infromation, and if you find you really need to vent, then head for the Padded Room.

You might want to check out the information about neurofeedback It may be something that could help you. There are some threads about it here, that have quite a bit of information in them as well.

So sit back, kick up your feet and enjoy yourself. Mr. B has built us an AWESOME home here.
