I was diagnosed with partial complex seizures when I was 16-months old due to a lesion on my occipital lobe. It's been 20 years since my last seizure, but I am still on medication for them.

My husband and I would like to have a baby in the near future so we've begun taking precautions in order to safely have a baby (I'm switching to Lamictal from Carbamazepine). I just had a new EEG and MRI done.

The EEG showed no seizure activity at all, but the doctor said she was going to call me today with the results of the MRI because she "wanted to talk to me at length about them." I'm really nervous and trying to "will" the phone to ring. Ha!

All of my previous EEGs showed seizure activity so I don't know what this means for me.

Just saying hi and giving you a little more of my story.

Hi and welcome,

I can not help you in regards to having a baby. I sorry to say I chose not to, so scared as to what could happen. However there are a many mothers on this forum who had children.

I pray the best for you as you move toward.

Welcome to CWE!
I'm with jyearta, I chose not to have children either for fear of the baby's safety and outcome as well as my own. A neurosurgeon at the time put plenty of fear in me about the med I was taking (carbamazepine) as well as risks, etc. that I just wasn't into taking at that time. Sometimes a decade later I do regret it, but don't give myself too much hell over it. Years later I have learned of a lesion that they want to remove so for me it's probably best that I never did it.
May I ask, if you know, why the lesion was never removed?

It was caused by a car accident that my mom had while I was in utero. I'm assuming that since my seizures have been controlled since 1992, they saw no reason to remove it. It's actually never even been brought up to me.

Hi PSUgirl2009, welcome to CWE!

It's good that the EEG didn't show seizure activity -- hopefully that means that the meds are working. Maybe it even means that your seizure activity has gone into remission! As for the MRI, it probably just showed the lesion again and your current doctor wants to discuss it. I hope your talk with the doc goes well -- have a pen and paper handy to write down what the doctor says, and don't hang up until you're clear on everything she says.

Best,
Nakamova
