Just thought I'd introduce myself.

I'm 42 and was diagnosed with epilepsy at around 9 years of age. I have febrile convulsions as a toddler, transferred to having complex partial seizures when I was in primary school which was only caught when my teacher noticed that when he was doing a math quiz and reading out questions I'd have the answers for the first couple, miss the middle questions and then have answered the last few questions. My mom had thought I was just ignoring her when I didn't answer her when she called. When I hit puberty I started with tonic clonic seizures. I was put on to Epilim which fairly well controls the seizures so I may only have one every 2 or 3 years.

With family history my father had/has night terrors and I had a cousin who died as a baby with hydroencephilitis. No one in my family had any epilepy until I reached 18 and my younger brother hit puberty and had his first tonic clonic seizure.

I am now married, have a child but as my husband had epilepsy as a teenager and his mother has seizures I keep an eye on her for any signs. So far she has not developed any symptoms.

I thought I'd drop in, read a little as I'm finding out now that there is so much information I was never given as I was a child when first diagnosed.

Hi and Welcome,

The same is true for me in the fact that after joining CWE, I found answer to questions, questions I had come to think had NO answers and then some.

Please look into all the forums and ask any questions, never think that a question here will make you feel crazy. The people here understand, we all been there at one tome or another.

Welcome, Lania! I am new here too. My knowledge is really fuzzy, and probably outdated, since I did most of my research a decade ago, and my memory just isn't that great. =P So I am looking forward to learning more here as I read what people have to say. =)

I have had simple and complex partial epilepsy for the last 15 years, and I have had a handful of drop attacks. I've never had a tonic clonic.

Hi Lania, welcome to CWE!

I hope you feel free to post any questions, and generally make yourself at home.

Best,
Nakamova
