Hi everyone!

I'm Becky Hubbard and I recently turned 31 years old. I have had tonic clonic seizures for 15 years now. My lastest seizure on 23 April 2011 lasted 9 minutes.

Welcome Becky

I rarely get tonic/clonic seizures but I dread it every time I do. It makes me admire people like yourself who get them more frequently.

Are you doing anything to help control them?

Yes I'm on 375mgs Phenytoin (Dilantin) every night. My latest one was really bad and my boyfriend had to ring an ambulance for me as my seizures don't usually last much longer than 45 seconds - 1 1/2 minutes. I'm not sleeping well at night since it happened and want to feel happy again.

Sounds like you'll fit in well here.

You're definitely in good company.

Do remember to brush your teeth because phenytoin has a tendency to cause gums to bleed and effect them in strange ways.

Hi Bec31, welcome!

Add calcium to the mix too, since Dialntin can be hard on the bones...

Since it's not completely controlling your seizures, have you talked to your neuro about upping the dose, or maybe trying something else?

Hope you feel better soon from your recent seizure.

Best,
Nakamova

Hi, Bec! Welcome!

Add to that the request to your doc to check your vitamin D levels when your other blood work is done, too. Either lack of calcium or low D can hurt your bones. AEDs are hard on both.

Welcome! It's so nice to be able to talk to others who are living the lives we are, it's great to have you!
