My name is Vada. My son has epilepsy and my daughter found and sent me a link to this forum. I look forward to being a part of this forum. I hope this is going to the right people.

Hi Vada,
My daughter has a seizure disorder. It began at the age of 14. We are controlling it however by making nutritional changes. She is now 18.

Welcome to the forum. I hope you find the support you are looking for here.

Thank You for replying. My son started his seizures when he was 17 months old and he is now 25 yrs old. His dr wants to put him on Keppra but not sure if we want to do that. Has your daughter or anyone you know used that and if so, does it work good? I looked at the side effects of it and that is why not sure if we want to put him on it.

There are many here that have used or currently use keppra.
My daughter tried tegretol, gabapentin, lamictal, and trileptal.
We were not successful with meds, and now I am glad, as we have found natural means in which to control her seizures.
Was your son tested for Vitamin B deficiency?

No I don't think he was tested for vitamin B deficiency. I will have to ask about that. What foods do you give your daughter to help with her seizure control?

Hi Vada, welcome to our group. I got diagnosed two years ago at age 47. When I turned to the internet I found this group and it has been a Godsend for information and support. I have been on Keppra for two years. I started at 500 mg twice a day. Currently I am taking 1250 mg twice a day. Prior to starting Keppra, I could have several seizures a day and then go a few weeks before another would hit. I have seen a huge decrease in seizures with Keppra. I can go 4-6 months without a seizure, that is the reason my level keeps getting adjusted.
When starting on the Keppra, I was very sleepy for the first few weeks. About 3 months after starting it, I started getting "kepprage" as they call it. It is getting angry and very emotional. My neuro told me if it was too bothersome, he could change my meds. However when I looked at other seizure meds and their side effects, I thought I would stay on Keppra. My keppage went away after a few weeks...althought when my level got increased, I can have it re-appear.
Some people can't tolerated the moodiness and do have to change meds.
I hope this is helpful to you
Jenn

Thank you Jenn for the welcome. Yes that is helpful. Our son gets agitated and angry really easy so don't need something that may make it worse. Hope you are having a good day and thank you again for the welcome.

Hi Vada, welcome to the forum. :hello:

The website might seem intimidating at first, but you'll soon figure out that it's really not so big/complicated. Most of the links on the page are redundant. Make yourself at home here. :)

Thank You Bernard for the welcome and for the links. Hope you are having a good day.
