I am not sure how to describe this. (A lot of our topics seem to have this in it.) All of the sudden my hands got really hot ... sort of like but no quite like I held them in a vat of really hot water. They did not feel hot on my face. Then they ached for quite a while ... like I scalded them. With the scalded feeling, touching the skin did not hurt but they still ached. My hands are just now starting to feel like their normally cool selves.

Another time my fingertips got really cold and hurt; I imagine frostbite would feel that way. But they were not cold when I touched other parts of my body. They ached after that too.

Do you suppose my body really thought that those things were happening to my hands?

Have you mentioned the burning sensation in your hands to your doctor? It could be a seizure symptom, but often unusual hand sensations are related to circulation issues, nerve damage or both. Some potential causes that you might want to rule out:

1. Burning Hands Syndrome (yup, it's actually called that -- it can result from injury to the cervical spine).

2. Spinal Stenosis -- Similar to #1. Compression of nerves in the spine can cause hand pain/burning.

3. Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (or other localized nerve issues in the hands)

4. Multiple Sclerosis

5. Vitamin Deficiency (particularly B complex, vitamin A and vitamin E)

6. Anxiety

7. Medication Side effects

I haven't ever had back or neck pain. I haven't been in any accident to cause an injury to my spinal cord. I am taking 200mg lamotrigine 2/day and 25mg zonisamide 2/day. I just started the zonisamide a few days ago. I do have simple and complex partials that we are still working to control. Trying to control creepy bugs, pins and needles in lips and back of thigh, left shoulder focal motor, etc. I think he may send me for a VEEG if this combo and the next combo fails. He said a lot of stuff at my last appointment; I wish my memory worked better and that I had someone to go with me whose memory worked better than mine. My 82 year old neighbor and 55 year old friend (with chemo brain) take me to my appointments. I am rambling now.
