Between a "memory jog" and a deja'vu? I used to think I had a decent grasp on the difference, but now I'm not so sure.

So, how do *you* tell the difference?

When the Deja Vu hits, something hits a switch in my mind. I get some what panicky. Hopefully that helps.

When i get deja vu i get a horrible feeling almost like a fear feeling and Im constantly thinking Ive already done this or this has just happened ...

But when i get a memory jog its for like " a-ha" light bulb moment type of feeling

For me its like the definition. Whenever I feel like the present is a memory I know its Deja Vu. It feels so real each time, thats what lets me know it isn't.

As a side note I once had Deja Vu of having Deja Vu of having a memory of Deja Vu.... yup.

Wow i bet this really messed with you head deja vu alone can be hard to deal with !!

Yah it was fascinating. It started when I had deja vu of grabbing a loaf of bread. When I recognized it as deja vu, I then felt like I was having deja vu of having deja vu of grabbing a loaf of bread. Again, I recognized it wasn't real and was deja vu. The seizure must have kept going because then I felt deja vu of deja vu of having a memory of deja vu of grabbing a loaf of bread. It's the deja vu version of the movie inception... over a loaf of bread. It was whole wheat :)

And there it is....that's what I've been waiting for ;)

Thanks you guys! I'm still not sure if I've just been having a lot of memories or lots of little deja vus. But, I'm sure I'll figure it out eventually.

If it makes you feel any better I have some auras where a series of random unrelated memories will surface. Now whenever I have a random though, I'll question whether its an aura... who knows. They are always nice memories.

That's what I've been experiencing the last two or three days. Just several random memories, with no obvious triggers. It's been bizarre.

Well I'm happy to know I'm in good company. :)

My auras alway vary in intensity so I'm use to the occasional uncertencty. Epileptic or not, everything I expereince and the conclusions drawn shapes who I am.

Oi, and do I jump to conclusions sometimes LOL or at least read into every little...everything. I annoy myself.

Yeah, the deja vu before my last seizure (36-48 hrs before) was ridiculously obvious. I knew what was happening and when it was over I said "I think I've just had a deja vu". Now I wish we hadn't panicked and jumped for the lorazepam bottle. But, we did.

The deja vu moments remind me of the Matrix haha. (hopefully you get the reference)
Really though the random memories have been a question i've had for years. Without fail, daily I have random memory spouts. I will dwell and almost get OCD about particular events. I never did that before the seizures spiked up.

For me, deja vu is like exactly reliving something that I know I've never experienced before. It's usually something boring and everyday, but there will be some element which makes it impossible to be a vivid memory. For some reason when I was visiting friends in Salt Lake City I had several deja vu events a day. I would feel like everything was happening exactly as it had before: everyone sitting in the same place, wearing the same clothes, talking about the same thing, etc; but I was someplace I'd never been before with some people I'd just met. But it all felt so real.

With memory jogs, a sound, a smell, a song...something will make me remember an event, person, or place unexpectedly. But in those cases I know the memories are real because they relate to other things I know are real. It just makes me wonder how I could ever have forgotten such things in the first place. :)
