How to clam 14 yo after first seizure. I need advice.

Hi. *My daugther, Carly, had her first seizure three nights ago. *Our whole family was in the room when it happened. My other kids (ages 10 nd 12) thought their sister was going to die. Sine the seizure Carly is off all her medications. *She was on Adderall, zoloft, clarinex, and oxybutinin. *

Carly doesnt remember the seizure or the day of the seizure. She remembers waking up in the ambulance. *She is afraid of having another one. *She is sleeping with her light on at might and is very clingy. *

I believe that Carly needs to be educated better about what happened and the chances of it happening again. *Does anyone know of a place I can get information that is more for younger kids. *There is so much information on seizures and Autism that it is overwhelming and quite frankly scarely for her to read. *

Any advice on what I should tell her regarding the chance she may have another one? What can I say to her to calm her that is also honest?

ShYou can get info from her local EFA. All you have to do is call the number

You can also get info on line or call 1-800-EFA-1000 national number.
You might also be able to get info from her doctor.

You ned info for other ppl in the family to read so they'll know what to do also.

Sorry to hear of Carly's 1st seizure. It is very scary to experience and witness a seizure for the first time. Here is a good place to start for much need info on epilepsy:

I wish I cold report that Carly is doing better but she isn't. She still can't sleep and she has had a moderate headache since the seizure. Her regular doctor didn't prescribe any headache medicine because she said the neurologist would do that. Carly doesn't see the neurologist for another ten days. She does see her psychiatrist and her counselor next week and I am hopeful they will be able to calm her down a bit.

Carly has OCD and I know that her thoughts won't turn off about this. She keeps thinking, "What if I have a seizure on the stairs, in the bus, at school, in the shower?".

Can you call the psychiatrist/counselor and ask them to see Carly sooner? Maybe that will help calm her some....
 
Tell her take her medications and if she doesn't that will increase the chance of her having another seizure. She'll always have a chance of having another seizure.
