Last night I went outside and saw this HUGE spider with the build of a taransula .. u know... the stocky type build.. fat legs....must have been an over-grown garden spider...

forgot about it today and had the door open .. yikes.

Uh oh. Keep an eye on any small pets you have...

*slamming door, shutting windows*

Keep that thing over there! I DO NOT WANT IT! Bloomin' ugly things bit my daughter once, involved Children's Protective Services and irritated me to no end. They don't scare me, but you can KEEP THEM!!

lol yeah, seriously. About 18 months ago I moved out an old apartment that was in a bad neighbourhood nad basically infested.... with insects....

I guess while i was moving stuff I was bit by something I did not realise until my toe started throbbing...shortly after ... noticed a red line spreading just past my ankle....

Shot of anti-biotics at the ER and a week of them got rid of it... still to this day I have no idea what spider.. or insect it was....

Im not from the USA originally.. so I still see things that freak me out...I dont think Ive seen a brown recluse (yet?) but I have seen black widows...and a bunch of other .. very ... horrid looking things.

I did hear, and Im not sure if its true... we swallow a certain amount in our lifetime .. or per year.... and ever since hearing this I have an obsession of checking everywhere im sleeping at night for them before bed.....I have found spiders on the bed a handful of times....

*shivers down spine.

I remember while in college- the second semester I joined the college band, not orchestral band but rock style/various style performance band. Anyways we were waiting outside the auditorium and a huge spider walked across my foot and I thought it was my sisters's white cane hitting me. I thought maybe she didn't realise I was to close to her and come to find out, after the yelling of my band mates, they saw the spider run off. We cornered it and the thing weighs a lot! It was big and I didn't go anywhere near it! They got it to go outside- but good Lord it was big. LOL

I owned a tarantula (however you spell it hehe) and he died due to old age- but i never touched him or held him. Those things are very big and friendly unless they are mad or upset by something.
Anyways- just not a spider type person at all. My guide dog Umbro will do heehee.

Take care..
Crystal

:roflmao:Don't worry - that's just Los Angeles with the weird stuff! Ohio is perfectly normal. :roflmao:

Just kidding folks from CA! (except USC fans)

"Shivers"
This thread is creepy and just in time for Halloween!
Where I come from its too cold for the insects to get much bigger than a quarter. But early one morning was picking up my daughter from her Granmas and I saw a dead Tarantula on the sidewalk. Thing was huge and balack with orange stripes. I dragged both my little one and her granma out of the house in their pj's to come see the darn thing otherwise no one would have believed me!
Can't stand spiders. I think that the fact they can hide anywhere and can drop down from the ceiling on you freaks me out the most :razz2:

yes I have seen the occasional black widow. I hate bugs! all of them. including butterflies and lady bugs, and dragon flies. So gross and icky.

But I will gladly pet and hold and cuddle a snake anyday!

baby snakes are so cool.

I heard from 2 people here a while ago that up in palos verdes you can sometimes find rattle snakes and smalle scorpians of some kind.. of course I did not believe them.

I have never seen one.. but I know a lady personally who has lived up there her whole life and did tell me on 2 occassions she saw a rattle snake....

not many occassions but still creepy. 2 years ago when I climbed half dome... we got to a point on the horse trail and I could hear all this rattling... i dont know if it was rattle snakes but it creeped me out !

I always had this big spider in my apartment. every time I would see it and try to kill it, it would run under the radiator. It was creepy knowing he was around when I was sleeping.

One time I woke up with one on my face...

EWWWWWWWWW!!!!!!!!!!!

Now I'm not gonna be able to sleep tonight............

oh, and to clearify that number...the average person swallows 3-5 spiders a year while they sleep.

I always thought that people who hate bugs should love spiders. They eat all the other bugs.

Okay I shouldn't have gotten on this threat to begin with "shudder" but I swear you guys are trying to make sure I don't sleep for a week.
And no Epileric the fact that spider eat other bugs doesn't help any. They still drop from the ceiling and scare the bejesus out of me

The fact that spiders eat other bugs just makes it worse. The other bugs dont stand a chance! so if I am afraid of a butterfly, and the spider eat the butterfly then I am more scared of the spider.

Most spiders are harmless

We have tarantulas out here in Ca and they burrow underneath the ground and I occasional stumble on these burrows in the back yard. The kids and I have fun looking at them and they are quite harmless.

Halloween: Watch out for huge spider dogs!

I hate spiders

In Australia a couple of years ago, I got knocked off my feet by a strong wave, I was fully dressed and therefore had to get changed. I went into the showerblock, stripped off and started to shower, I looked up and saw a HUGE Huntsman spider just above my head, I yelled, grabbed my towel and ran.

What a wimp, but apparently I was good for a laugh.

Well, we don't have tarantulas here in Kansas, have a few Black Widows but have LOTS of brown recluse spiders which are nasty too. They are small and have an orange/red violin shape on their underbelly. They have been known to result in some nasty bites.
