Hurricane Ike - Help Is On The Way For Texas!

Some interesting Tid-Bits...
Josephine is not added --- YET, she's still
too far off... the main threats are Hanna and
Ike ... and you can forget those old "I LIKE IKE"
(those Presidential Buttons).

We (Florida) are at our "PEAK SEASON", so this
is all completely normal for us, and it is not unusual,
but it is interesting to watch and monitor.
However for "us" - we are all too used to this, it's
part of our "lives". Living in the tropics, you live
according to 'Mother Nature', it's all part of living
in 'Paradise' as tourists labels it; and that's just
part of the price that comes with it, but you get
used to it all ~ nothing 'new' to me.
But I DO apologize for not capturing "GUS" and
getting him in the Album, but of course I haven't
captured every single Hurricanes and Tropical Storms
that's breezed by here.
So far - the worse Hurricane had been ELENA and
the worse Tropical Storm has been recently - FAY,
in my own life span. Andrew looks like mincemeat
compared to these two. And yes, we even had Katrina
that whooshed by here, but people FORGET, Katrina
made landfall elsewhere, and it was the levees that
broke that caused massive destructions in Naw'lins
(southern for New Orleans), not Katrina.
TRIVA TIME: Florida has had a Hurricane / Tropical Storm
in every month except FEBRUARY (can come in handy if
you're ever positioned to win ... but of course you didn't
"hear it" from me ... LOL! (You read it!) You can actually
GOOGLE it up or even go to Wiki and research it.)
Who wants a Hurricane / Tropical Storm in December any
way? BAH HUMBUG! But that's living in the Tropic Zone!

One of the worst storms in my area in recent years was Hurricane Charley in 2004. I live in DeSoto County, just outside of Charlotte County where he made landfall. Four years later we still have some homes with blue tarps on them!

I flew into Miami in Dec-2005 after FL got hit by so many storms that year. From the sky, it looked like the blue roofs (tarps) were part of the local architecture. They were everywhere.
Ohio sits in a fairly safe zone. We do get tornados, but not as bad as the more western states. We have a lot of earthquakes, but they are usually undetectable. The most we ever see from hurricanes is left over rain (hoping for a little from Gustav since we are so dry right now). Our worst weather is winter storms, but major blizzards are few and far between (except up by Lake Erie). The worst blizzard was in 1978. The barometric pressure was lower than a cat 3 hurricane with sustained winds of hurricane force for 36-48 hours. We could not see more than 10 feet at the height of the storm. No silly reporters out in that one.
Make sure you all take care along the coasts and come visit Ohio sometime if you need a break.

I was a kid living in Michigan during the big blizzard of '78. I remember being terrified of that howling wind. We were without power for a long time and had to go stay at my mom's friend's house because she had a fireplace to keep us from freezing to death. The snow drifts were halfway to the eaves, and when the plows finally made it through, you couldn't see the cars going by on the roads. Some of the snow piles in the ends of the parking lots didn't melt all the way until nearly summer. (Great for "King of the Mountain" though.)

I am sure many of us, from Texas, can testify that hurricanes are just a normal part of the year for us. We have had sooooo many that were so bad that their names were retired, from Galveston storm of 1900 to storms like Carla (my dad was in his bosses boat in the middle of the Brazos River during that storm!!!) to Celia to Allen to Beulah to Bret to Alicia to many, many more.

The blizzard of 78. I was at my moms house visiting, but had just left to fly back to hawaii the day before it hit. I have lived up in new england all my live, so i been around lots of storms durning winter. Sometimes we get the rain and winds from hurricanes. One time one came up and hit new england, but because we do have cold water , the power of storm was down.

Why did they have to use the name "IKE" for?
It's the Presidential Elections year and we still

I've got a feeling that Ike is headed my way.
I agree. This storm gives me much more of a Texas feel than Louisiana. It has stayed further south than all of their projections.

Hurricane Ike - Where is IKE going to Head (part 2)
Well, this part 2 is to talk about hurricane Ike, not Hanna.
Hurricane Ike is currently heading West towards Texas. And the computer models that are being shown on TV, are showing lines going directly toward the area along the Texas coastline, Corpus Christi, where I grew up. I'm still in Texas, just a 4+ hours drive away from the coastline. And it looks like those same computer model lines are going towards where I'm located now. Our host on here, Bernard, is also located in Texas, somewhere around Houston and Galveston.
Overall, if anyone wonders why the Texans aren't posting any messages on here this coming weekend, and on into next week, the blame is most likely going to be put on Hurricane Ike.

The names of hurricanes are retired when someone ends up losing their life because of the hurricane.
My brother live's on the cost of Texas!
I guess you could say this hurricane season has done enough damge already! And here comes Ike another hurricane I t seems my brother would have gotten smart and moved further inland by now! I guess you could say therest of my family is fortunateeither we live in central Texas or West Texas away from this mess!
