Hello All,

I have been married almost 3 months and my wife had a seizure last night while we where you know...My question is - is that normal to have one after or during sex?

Also she was complaining about having an upset stomach before the seizure is there any relationship between the two?

She is currently on 1200mg of trileptal. When she woke up this morning she said she had a head ache and felt nauseous.

Sorry for all the different questions.

Thank you all in advance for your help!

Hi booj! I've had one with my hubby while we were having...lasagna. :) It's not exactly unusual to I guess.... The tummy upset stomach might be an aura. Your wifey should keep track of her seizures by logging them, and writing down what she was feeling prior to them. That way she can figure out if it was an aura or just not feeling well. :) If she just started on trileptal, the nausea might be due to the meds... If she's new to E, here's some of the info she might want to keep track of in a journal..

1. Food ( what, when, how much)
2. Drinks ( what, when, how much)
3. sleep (when, how much)
4. odd feelings (migraines, odd tastes/odors/sounds/sights/feelings, etc...)
5. meds/otc medicines/supplements/herbals ( any medications shes on, when she takes, how much, why)
6. stress ( physical like being sick, emotional, mental like worrying about bills etc...)
7. how she deals with stress
8. Her cycle
9. seizures (when, where, how long, what she was doing/feeling like prior)

Here's why. people with E sometimes have what are known as triggers. these are things that can cause a person to have a seizure. Some fairly common ones are: lack of sleep (you should get 7 hours minimum every night), too much stimulants (coffee, sodas, energy drinks, tea, otc decongestants, etc.), drop in blood sugar, too much stress, hormonal shifts, and flashing lights or patterns.
I encourage people to make a journal and see if they can find a pattern. If they can figure out what might trigger their seizures, then maybe they can avoid them and decrease the number of seizures. Hope this helps. :)

Is it possible she could be pregnant? others on here have told me that hormones are also something that can contribute to seizure activity.

If she is not, she may be close to starting her period.

It's not uncommon for seizures to occur during uh, intimate moments. Headache and nausea are normal post-seizure sensations, so maybe that's what your wife is experiencing. Her pre-seizure upset stomach could be an indication of a dietary trigger, and/or something going on with her metabolism that affected the levels of Trileptal in her system.

I have been there before a few times. Not for quite a while though, but yes, it can happen. (((((HUGS))))) for your wife.

Booj,

My wife also has E. She's never had a seizure during sex though. I would imagine that the release of endorphines and other chemicals to the body could certainly be a trigger. Really anything that is messing with the chemicals your body produces could very easily be a trigger, so it makes sense.

I also just wanted to say that it's not easy when your wife has seizures. It can cause a pretty bad feeling of helplessness. The key is communication and education. Educate yourself as much as you can about E and that way you won't be in the dark if/when it ever causes any issues such as this.

Thanks for all your help!

We are meeting with the doctor tomorrow and see what happens...I will keep you all posted!

Thanks again!

You guys
