good afternoon.... I am here cause my 1 year old has a siezure disorder. I am not sure if it is labeled as "epilepsy" At 2months old she developed Meningitis, resulting in 4 major strokes, infantile spasms, legally blind. I am here to ask questions from people and hopefully learn somethings on the way.

Hi MsddyMsd'sDad, welcome to CWE!

I'm sorry to hear about your daughter and her seizure disorder. There are quite a few members caring for kids with different seizure disorders. If you haven't already, you should check out The Nursery Forum here: http://www.coping-with-epilepsy.com/forums/f42/

Technically, if your daughter has had more than one seizure, then the diagnosis is epilepsy (even if the primary cause is meningitis.). Regardless, I'm glad you've found us, and I hope you feel comfortable about posting and asking questions.

Best,
Nakamova

welcome to CWE ! im sorry to hear that your daughter has been/is going through so much , im sure you'll find tons of helpful info and support here ! good luck to you and your baby girl

CWE is the best place to learn, vent, cry, and smile. You are not alone and there is no shame here. I have learned more here than in any doc's office. I have found much needed support and validation. ( ya mean I am not the only one feeling this?) Great folks from both sides of E:e:

Welcome to CWE

Infantile spasms is a seizure disorder. When combined with a typical EEG pattern and developmental delays it can be a childhood epilepsy syndrome called West syndrome. Caused by meningitis it possebly is a sympotmatic type of epilepsy.

You can find more about infantile spasms and West syndrome on this usefull parental forum http://infantilespasms.com/forum/

My specil needs son suffered braindamage as a newborn infant which caused him to have the Lennox Gastaut syndrome and cortical vision impairment.

Hi MaddyMadsDad. Has your daughter seen a neurologist or eptiologist (sp?)

Does that apply to partial seizures too or just grand mals? I ask because I had way more than two in an average day and haven't got a diagnosis of epilepsy. Though the neurologists tend to be ignorant and discriminatory at this hospital (Salford Royal).
