I had epilepsy for about 15 years it all started when a large tree 80-100 feet tall fell on me and craked my helmet when I was in the army. I have about one grand mal seizures every two mounts. I suffer from Myoclonic seizures an average of once a day but I can go weeks with out getting them & then several a day. I have Complex partial seizures daily several a day, I also suffer from Atonic seizures. But the worst part of it is the migraines.

I am not very emotional I only say this because some of the many Dr. I have seen say this is from my head injury.

In February of this year a I got the flew and had about 60 grand mal seizures. It was a real ruff month. Since then I have not felt the same. I don't know what to do. I have know faith in my doctor so I wont go see her. The bright sunnie days of summer really bring on the worst.

Welcome to CWE

Always good to have more viewpoints & experiences.

There seems to be a lot of members in the US military so you're definitely in good company here.

I can't believe the amount of seizures you have, especially when you're sick. have you tried anything other than medications? Maybe one of the alternative treatments would help you.

WELCOME wildnv
Thanks so much for your service. I have a son in the Marines. Sorry to hear of your mishap.

I wonder what changes in your system during the flu, that increases your susceptability to seizures.

I had bronchitis as well in February I was coifing hard and all the time I thank that was the main change. I would cough till I got so light headed I could not stand.

Hi Wildnv and welcome,

From your messages / posts it sounds like you've taken quite a lot on board already and, if you don't mind me saying, appear to have lots of seizures. I'm sorry to hear that you have a difficult relationship with your doctor, took me a while to find someone I trusted too, I changed hospital / neurologist 4 times until I found someone I had more of an understanding with.

Welcome to the forum buddy, there are certainly plenty of people who are associated with the forces within the forum.

Hi WildNV, welcome to CWE.

I'm sos sorry, you've definitely had a rough patch. Infections can trigger seizures, and some of the secondary effects of being sick (fatigue, dehydration, poor nutrition), can also trigger them, especially if you already have a low seizure threshold. I hope your overall health improves, that should help with reducing the seizures a bit.

It sounds like your current treatment plan isn't working. Maybe it's time for something else -- a new doctor, or a second opinion, a different med, a different approach? I hope you feel free to explore the site to see what other folks are trying/have tried.

Best,
Nakamova

Hi, WildNV,

Welcome to the forum! There are really great people in here and really great information.

I'm so sorry about all the seizures you are having. It sounds really rough.

I agree with everthing said before. I want to add that if you took cough medicine or antihistamines/decongestant when you were sick, those over the counter medications mixed with your anti-seizure meds can be a seizure trigger. Topamax and Benedryl was an awful combination for me.

Please take care. And will you let us know how you are doing?

Hey there and welcome !

I often have more seizures when I get sick. Especially the day before and the first day of a cold or flu. My system doesn't like the changes illness causes. Hard to get people to understand that a 'simple' cold will take me out of the game for a day or two.

Thank you for your service, wildnv, I appreciate it ! :)

Welcome widnv, I am so sorry that you have had such a rough time. I had pneumonia 2 years ago and I have not gotten back up to full strength. I know what you mean.

I have 2 grandsons in the Marines.
