Went to view a flat the other day, straight after coming out of it I filled in the application form and handed it in. Just got a call saying that I've been accepted as a tenant! Going next Fri to pay the deposit and pick up the keys.

Ooh I'm so excited (and more than a little nervous!). Things have been very stressful in my house in recent months and it all came to a head on Tuesday. I ended up staying at a friends and my little brother had to leave and cut his visit short.

I'm thinking about all the stuff I need to get for it, eep lol! So can't wait :)

When I saw the title of your thread, I thought you had gotten a flat tire. I'm so glad it's the excellent news that you are getting a place of your own!

I also thought you got a flat tire.

Congratulations on finding one though.

Just thinking about all the shopping i'll get to do over the next couple weeks lol :P

Thats awesome! I thought you had a flat tire too when I first saw your post! :roflmao: Im so excited for you! :)

I tried to edit it to say apartment but it wouldn't let me. I forget sometimes about most of the site being from across the pond lol. Will be packing some stuff tomorrow :) already deciding on colours for each room!

That's great news Loopy :woot:.

How did everything go with your epilepsy nurse the other day?

Lou,

Contratulations! I'm so happy for you. I bet less stress will help your seizures, too. What colors are you going to paint it? What things are you going to shop for first?

I thought you had a flat tire, too, when I read it! This is MUCH better!

CQ - Yeah my epilepsy nurse came and we chatted about what we could do. My parents and my little brother are going to have a spare set of keys in case of emergencies or if they haven't heard from me in a while, and i'll be texting or calling them quite regularly. My mum and dad have just got a new place too, so they'll be moving at the end of july and i'll be moving around the middle of july.

Endless - i've decided that all the rooms are going to be a cream colour on the walls, and then the colour is going to come from the furnishings (curtains, pictures, ornaments, maybe a rug). The living room is going to be green themed, my bedroom red, and the spare room blue :D

Bob the budgie is allowed to move with me too, woop! My plans of getting a small dog have been dashed though, as the landlord doesn't allow it.

I think the first thing i will shop for will be a settee, and then i don't know if i'll buy some pics and stuff or just paint some myself :ponder:

Wondering if i should go pick up the keys and pay the deposit a bit earlier so i can get the place cleaned up and stuff..?

If you're feeling up to it, I say go for it! Bring the measuring tape so you can figure out what size settee to get...

Nah i was just thinking that i have four days off work this week. Tomorrow will be spent recovering from these last two days at work (Had to call the police on a client yesterday as she was >>>>this<<<< close to stabbing my colleague. What a nightmare! Anyhoo, i digress.)

I wrote a list of everything i'll need to get. It's huge but i'd say most of it can be got for well under £200, excluding a settee. Luckily i already have a single bed which will be going into my spare room, and my brother is giving me his double bed, which will go into my room! Yeah, pretty much everything apart from a sofa and a fridge freezer i already have, with regards to large furniture.

*squeeeeeeee!*

I'm so glad you have beds and a frig. They are some of the really big expenses. If you get the word out, maybe one of your friends may have an old settee that needs a new home. (I just did - too bad we have an ocean between us!)

Do you have an Ikea near you? When my neices got their first place, I bought them one of Ikea's full kitchen packages. For about $50, it had pots and pans, utensils, plates & mugs & glasses for 4. Amazing they can do that for that price. I've found their linens to be expensive, though.

How fun, Lou! Wish I could be there to shop with you.

We have a shop called Wilkinsons over here where i could pretty much get all the plates, kitchen appliances, utensils and smaller stuff from. It's not expensive either which is a definite bonus!

There might be somewhere near here where i can get a second hand fridge and washing machine, maybe they'll do me a deal if i get both together.

Hi Lou -
Giving your family a spare key is a great idea. As well as my parent I got a spare key cut for my neighbour. My parents are 30 mins away from me so if there was an emergency my neighbour could get straight to me.

That's good that you have some of the bigger furniture already. Do you have any charity shops or 2nd hand shops that you can get the furniture you do need?

We do have them, but i think the only thing i wouldn't get second hand would be something like a sofa.

Wooden furniture, wardrobes etc i don't mind getting second hand although of course i check them over thoroughly for wood worm and such.

I'm off work tomorrow so looks like i will be chucking stuff in boxes and packing up more items. I can't believe how many books i have. It's practically a mini library! I definitely need to invest in a couple more bookshelves.

Oh, darn. I thought you already had a fridge. Great idea about the 2-fer.

Very good to hear about Wilkinsons. Every area has their own go-to, affordable store. In the U.S. it's mostly Walmart.

Soooo excited for you! I always love moving. A fresh start really brightens your mood :) You have to take lots and lots of pictures!!

We have ASDA here, i'm pretty sure thats owned by Walmart. It sells food, but pretty much everything else too :O I'd have to wait til i'm able to get a ride up there though.

Settled now that i'm going to pick up the keys on the 4th. Going to check my bank today to make sure my finances are in order. I should have plenty to pay the deposit with some left over though.

There will be pictures :D Right, i'm off to pack off some of my books, dvds and ornaments and stuff.
