Woohoo I just purchased my first ever sofa :) I'm so easily pleased lol. I got a 3 seater and a two seater for £250. They're ex-display which is why they're so cheap :) will be getting delivered next Friday yay!

Sort of sand colour, but a pretty coloured throw will make them really nice :)

Wow! What a GREAT bargain! :)

What kind of material? Canvas? Velveteen? Weavy-stuff? Leather? Fuzzy? :)

They're fabric, but its kind of like close weaved. Yeah maybe sort of canvassy. They're dead squishy and comfy though. I just hope we can get them into the flat ok! There's a flight of stairs going up to it :P

Getting really nervous now about moving in. Only 5 days til i go pick up the keys! Then i can start getting all the little stuff i need.

Was talking to a girl at work last night and saying about how excited i was about moving in and she said to me "It seems to me like you're a little worried about it... you sure you're ready?"

This is someone i don't really talk to as i don't work with her much. She's pretty astute really. Turns out she has a friend who also has epilepsy who recently went through surgery and she remembers when her friend first moved out on her own. It's a funny old world.

I'll be fine once i get all my stuff in there and settle in. At least there should be less stress than living here!

It's normal to feel a little scared with a move -- it comes with the territory. I guess there's the nagging feeling that something might go wrong and the intense hope that everything will go right. There's also something called "positive stress", which is when you get all revved up for something you're looking forward to -- a trip, a date, a new job, and yes, a new home.

Anyway, we are hear to coax you through all the scary stuff, and cheer at all the awesome stuff in your future.

And just think of that big house warming party your gonna have!!!!!!!

Woohoo the girl i was talking to at work last night just called. She has a friend who is moving out and has a washer/dryer (clothes that is) that she needs to get rid of, and a fridge freezer and will be selling them quite cheap. Wheeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!

Also, i'm looking forward to the house warming too. I have a special bottle of rum which i have been keeping in reserve :D

Do you have enough rum for everyone here at CWE? :)

Great news about the deal on the appliances!

Lou.

That's great news sbout getting the lounge & bigger electrical appliances at a cheaper price .

Rum? Did someone mention rum?! It'll take me a few days to get over there.....

Wow. You have excellent shopping skills. What amazing bargains you are finding! I'm especially happy about the washer and dryer. It's so great to be able to do your clothes at home, instead of a laundromat.

:)

Perfect for mixing up a Dark & Stormy!

Dark & Stormy = dark rum + ginger beer over ice. And a slice of lime (to ward off scurvy of course).

Ah bummer, it was looking good up til the Ginger beer bit :P

I have to call the woman with the washer/dryer and fridge on monday to find out how much the woman is wanting for them. My little brother will be up here too, so he may be able to give me a lift to pick it up lol. Also, he will be able to help me move stuff to flat, woot!

Then i need someone with a van for the two beds and all the bits of furniture and shelving that i need to move...

Well, it's tomorrow morning that i'm going to pick up the keys. Eeeek i'm so nervous! My friend is going to give me a lift with some stuff, and i'm going to go into the place and give it a bit of a clean and a vaccuum before i start moving stuff into it. You should see the piles of boxes i have sitting here, and i've not even finished packing yet! A lot of friends and family have offered to help me out (strangely, except for my mum and dad), but i've done all the packing myself. I have a kettle and a toaster now, about £5 each from ASDA (part of the Walmart group)

Will be moving some boxes round tomorrow after i've given the place a bit of a clean up.

Nervous nervous nervous!

Lou,

You are going to be okay! This is SO GREAT! You'll love being on your own, and being able to have your friends (and brother) over to your very own place. I know you feel nervous. I look at that as a type of excited, if it's turned a quarter turn upwards!

About your parents not helping. They may have mixed feelings about you moving out. They could be really upset about it, but don't know how to express it or deal with it. All parents have trouble letting go of their baby. Okay, some don't and head to Vegas the second the kid is out the door. But I suspect your parents are ones that are struggling with the concept of you being gone.

Hmm i don't know... my dad is pretty fond of telling me to "get the **** out of his house" when he's in a bad mood. They're also on holiday right now, but i can't move out fully til they get back anyway.

Anyhoo, picked up the keys today, signed tenancy agreement, went to the place and gave it a good cleaning. Opened all the windows to get some air about the place. It's really hot here today.

A friend gave me a lift to move some boxes round in her car, and helped me with the cleaning and stuff. Got my electric and water on too, yay!

Whoa it's been a busy day. Just having an hour for chill out and then another friend is coming to pick me up so she can have a nosy at my new flat and a brew :D

Edit - oh yeah, BONUS! There is already a fridge/freezer in there, woop!

I just found out that i may be entitled for benefits to help with paying my rent and council tax (rent £369 a month, council tax £70), even though i'm in part time work. I wouldn't get those full amounts, but some substantial help towards it.

Would it make me a money grabber if i applied for it? I mean, i know i only work part time, but i also get disability benefits. Actually, the disability benefits are what entitles me to the housing help.

I'd possibly struggle with the bills without it, but i would manage without spare money for going out anywhere. I've always paid my taxes etc, but i'm not sure. It was actually my landlord who suggested trying it. Mind you, i felt like this when i first claimed disability living allowance, but in the end i didn't have a choice because i had to cut down my hours at work so much and i needed the money.
