I can't believe it! It's taken me 4 long years to complete my 3 year degree in psychology and counselling but I've managed to keep my grades high enough to be accepted into the very competitive honours degree that starts next year! Whoo hoo!!

This means I will actually conduct my own research study and I have opted to study something about animals! I'm thinking about prison dogs, or assistance dogs. I would love to do epilepsy dogs but I have to make sure I can get enough participants and epilepsy dogs are very rare over here. It's going to be stressful and hard work but I'll manage...somehow =)

Wow... all that dizziness during exams, the hours spent at the doctors, the valiums during class and the stress over trying to study with an upside down brain has been worth it!

Never give up guys, just replace the word "can't" with "somehow" =)

xxx

P.S. I would LOVE some ideas on what to study. My supervisor may place certain restrictions on it, I'm not sure but it certainly doesn't hurt to brain storm!!

Cheers!
I heard that there is a little bit of an adobtions service for dogs and some peoples do nothing but being foster pet keepers for maybe potential owners.
Just a thought since a friend of mine lives near Melbourne.
And she is a foster parent to dogs.

CONGRATS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and way to kick ass!

CONGRATULATIONS!! That is great.

Never give up guys, just replace the word "can't" with "somehow" =)

Never say never, either!! You have already worked long, grueling hours, so we know you will somehow prevail.

Study "something" about animals.... Can you expand on that?

Congrats by the way. I never really had good grades. Guess I just never cared to much about the subject matter.

Wobblez, I wish I could give you some great ideas, but I think the best I can do is to say "congratulations!"

And I love your comment: [replace the word "can't" with "somehow"]

Way to kick ass! I had been thinking of going back to school myself, and have been hesitant due to E issues. Your story is just what I needed to hear.

Good luck with your new program!

You are a true inspiration. Making things happen with iron will! Congrats and i'm sure whatever choices you make will have a great outcome.

Well, first off, CONGRATULATIONS! Secondly........how about a study on service dogs knowing instinctively what's wrong with their owner? Perhaps you can do an area of your studies on E, some on cardiac, blindness......if that's what it would take to make your professors happy. Or if they wanted you to specialize in one, and you did it on service dogs for E, perhaps how the dogs sense the start of different types of seizures......

I did see something on TV the other day about a dog being rehabilitated in a prison because of neglect....perhaps there is a similar training program for service dogs. What's the success rate? How is the trainer picked for the program? You get the idea.....Sorry, I am just thinking randomly off the top of my head.....

Cheers!

Thank you everyone for your kind words. I'm hoping you will have a few more when I get into the course next year. There will yet again be loads of statistics which may reduce me to the foetal position lol! SOMEHOW SOMEHOW SOMEHOW is my motto!

N Sperlo: At this stage all I know is that I want to incorporate my love of animals into my study. I have to perform actual research over the year long course and my supervisor specialises in researching the relationship between animals and humans. Next week we will meet and discuss it further so I'm just looking for ideas.
Dignan: Do it! Getting through uni/school has little to do with intelligence and much more to do with hard work and "stickability". Anyone can do it if they really want to. I would suggest you look into the support services available though to make it easier for yourself. I have accessed my uni counsellors, the equity and disability services and the scholarships. I have also had to lean on my family and friends but one way or another, I've made it through.

Meetz1064: I love your ideas and they were the first to spring to my mind but I have to make sure I can get access to the dogs and participants, and over here in Perth we don't have any seizure dogs that I know of. I could do something with guide dogs? Thanks for the cardiac dog idea, I'll look into that.

Good luck

Wobblez. If I can help in anyway, I'll try. Don't know how....but I am very proud of you! :D

Hey Wobblez, it's terrific how far you've come, and how far you will be going! Let us know what you decide to tackle. Maybe some of the research areas listed here will inspire you: http://research.vet.upenn.edu/Research/tabid/1907/Default.aspx

Also, I you might like this book. I just bought it for my niece, hope to borrow it when she's done:
