It was the first week of my college internship at a domestic violence shelter.

I was in an office with an employee and another intern shadowing a "Crisis Hotline" where DV victims call in for help then I started getting my deja vu/forced thinking thoughts...and then thought to myself, "F**K NO, this is not happening!!!!! :soap:

Next thing I know I'm sitting down asking what's going on. They told me that I got up, walked out of the office and just walked around as if I didn't know where I was and what was going on and asked an intern who are you and what are you doing here, then I told them I have epilepsy and that's why I can't drive.

I don't remember none of this!! All I remember is sitting down listening to the call and then 3 people starting at me, "Like what the hell is wrong with her?".

I'm kind of happy it was an unconscious seizure, just an altered awareness seizure, i.e - conscious complex seizure. When I first got the internship I told my supervisor about my epilepsy, so I'm not worried about people knowing, it's just I wanted to keep it between me and my supervisor.

Now 1 intern and 2 employees know, what I am worried about is them telling others. I had a great conversation with both of the employees after the seizure, one of them revealed to me she had lupus and the other told me more of what I was doing and saying during the seizure. But I didn't tell them not to tell anyone...I was scared to say that.

I'm hoping the next 5 months will be seizure free at my internship, I beginning to think I ate something that caused it, it was granola bar that said gluten free, but it had almonds and coconut in it, I might have had a problem with those ingredients, cause I have gone 2 months w/o a seizure before.

Sorry you had a break-thru seizure after two months seizure free. Sounds like a complex partial seizure and it is good that you let the others in on your condition. You also need to let your neuro know. Your meds may need to be adjusted. And make sure you get your sleep and don't let the stress get to you... I would say that is more than likely what caused the seizure.

Sounds like a very stressful job . maybe thats what caused it. sorry it happened though.

Hi Juju,

Sorry to hear about the seizure but glad to see it sounds like your co workers were supportive. I agree with Cint in regards to letting your neurologist know, if you dont already it is good to keep a seizure diary & write down what happened & what the other people witnessed.

I also agree that stress may have been a tirgger to your seizure, maybe you were stressed or nervous about starting your internship. Good luck with the internship, I hope once you settle into your job the seizures will reduce.

Bad news to hear, i'm sorry. Nothing is worse then feeling your brain prepping for a seizure. Sounds like you had good control and hopefully your mind can go back to staying seizure free. Best wishes and hope everything works out well.
