Just returned from my therapist/neuro psych appointment. The therapist appointment basicly gave me some ideas for coping with the stress in my job and life. The neuro psych told me something that made me stop and go hmmm. She told me my brain is differnt from other people. The chemisty is different than the average person without E. Besides the fact that I am missing most of my right temporal lobe. It deals with certain stimuli differently than most people. Like stress. My brain deals with it by having a seizure. You know I never thought of it that way :ponder: Oh well this is just the start of this. I'm not convinced that what I'm having is non epileptic but I'm keeping an open mind and we'll keep everybody updated

Some neuropsychiatrists still use ECT (electro-convulsive therapy) for severely depressed patients. That's what having a seizure is, for some. I went through a stage of severe depression back in the 90's after my left temporal lobectomy and my psychiatrist said that maybe a seizure now and then would help alleviate the depression. And my psychiatrist told me that I was different than any of his other patients, too.... one of the most difficult to treat as far as seizures and depression.

I still take 2 AEDs, have the VNS and take an anti-depressant. Life goes on...............

It works that way for me (full generalized seizures seem to alleviate occassional severe depression) and I have had no part of my brain removed. I wish they could use SPECT or PET scanning and find out what is wrong with the chemistry inside my skull and come to understand the chemical process of epilepsy.
