I really don't think this is possible

As we all know, Danny Glover has epilepsy, and I've done some reading on it, and although I am not exactly sure all of the types of seizures he has, he claims that his has been seizure for years. But that's not the kicker. The thing is" it's not medications he is using. He says he can completely control and ward off seizures with his mind. Is this actually possible?

yeah. going off the interview he could have outgrown his epilepsy or trained his mind. you don't really know for suremy neurologist had told me one time that if a person was on medication and remained seizure free for many years that eventually they could be pulled off the meds (gradually of course) because at that time, because of being on the meds so long the brain has been retrained to fire the neurotransmitters correctly.

A neurologist told me that when I feel a seizure coming on to count backwards by 2's starting an 99.

I never get far but it seems to lessen the seizure and/or the post-ictal effects.

i was gonna say. i have generalized and once my seizure starts i don't even think i could get to 98

You should never get to 98 if you're counting backwards by 2's starting at 99 lol

But seriously, the farthest I got for the longest time was 97 but it wasn't the counting that helped, it was trying to get your brain to function and process other information that helped lessen the seizure.

I'd done it for over a year (I haven't done it for a while though) and the furthest I got was 93 but doing it still seemed to help.

oh i thought you said count from 99 to 2. im not sure what my problem is. as many as i've had instead of using my mind to try and pull myself out of a t/c, i try and physically do it

i dont know if its just a natural reaction or what. but you would think after a few unsuccessful attempts i would give that up

I would always lose track for part of the seizure as it generalized then come back thinking I knew where I was.

It sort of was a bit frustrating that something relatively easy was so hard but if I can have an extremely intense seizure yet have no (or extremely minimal) post-ictal fatigue or confusion then I don't care how many (or few) numbers I've counted or missed.

i've never had the type you get so i would be kinda inyerested to see what they are like. unless maybe i have had something similar and just didn't know. i would assume if you have generalized there's a good chance you could have partials or partial complexes

I have complex partial seizures with secondary generalized seizures, meaning that sometimes my CP seizures do go into a TC seizure, but not always. So I've had SP, CP, and TC seizures over the years.

I read a book once about a woman with CP seizures could ward off seizures by changing her thought pattern when she felt the aura coming. Think only of a nice, wonderful images. I could not get it to work for me, tho.

yeah. see the problem, like i've been explaining is, i don't know why it is, but as soon as mine starts my thought process almost completely comes to a halt. as soon as it hits i shout someone's name and then my speech stops completely. and then as my body locks up (except for the shaking) i really don't remember what i'm thinking about, so i don't know if i can stop with my mind
