I'm new to this site and feel a bit silly asking questions because I know that people say go to the doctors but I was hoping to find some support or something

So today in college I was sitting on the table with the computer doing my work when I started to feel a little sick. Then my body started shaking like I was freezing cold, my arms started to jerk about and I couldn't control it. The mouse went flying across the room and I got some odd looks. My teacher sent me home and a few hours later at home I spilt my drink because it happened again

My father has just been diagnosed with epilepsy and he knows a lot about it but he has complex partial seizures I think they're called. I am currently exhausted and my arms are sore, it's been happening quite a bit today and has only happened once before but not like this.

I am going to the doctors in two weeks because they're fully booked otherwise but I was wondering if anyone had the same symptoms or any advice

i sometimes feel sick just before i have a seizure and can feel really sleepy after i've had one. i also have complex partial seizures like your father. see what your doctor says though and take it from there

It sounds similar to myoclonic jerks.

If it's something along the lines of JME, that's a form of epilepsy which CAN be inherited and is typically diagnosed using a family history as well.

Hi Elly, welcome to CWE!

I agree with Andrew what you describe sounds like a myoclonic jerk. That can be a form of Simple Partial seizure. (Complex Partials involve some impaired awareness or consciousness, whereas you're fully conscious and aware during a Simple Partial). Have you experienced any other unusual sensations or symptoms. Simple Partials can take a lot of different forms -- strange feelings, vision distortions, motor issues, etc. You can read more about them here: http://www.epilepsy.com/epilepsy/seizure_simplepartial

You may find it helpful to keep a seizure diary -- it can give a sense of whether or not your symptoms are increasing in frequency, duration, or kind, and may also help you identify any patterns or triggers. (Triggers can be things like hormone fluctuations, certain foods, illness/infection, fatigue, etc.).

Best,
Nakamova
