My husband has a gun, has taken classes and has a permit to carry.

It not the Guns that kill, it is the people, If they want to kill they will.

Between the two of us Cint. As far as I can tell, I'm the one with the experience with guns. So I am far more knowledgeable of how dangerous they are compared to you. I don't need to see what happens first hand to a person's body when it gets shot, I have seen videos of it. I've served in the United States military. I've shot watermelons in my backyard, it's not hard to imagine what would have happened if it was a head instead. I've shot deer, I've shot small game, I've killed things by shooting them, no I've never killed a human being, don't plan to, don't want to.

Killing is a sport? That is what most of the guns are used for, regardless of what type.
I don't know if you're talking out of your ass or if you were lied to, either way you're wrong. There are over 300million guns in the US and just over 300million people. SO UNLESS OVER 150MILLION PEOPLE IN AMERICA DIE FROM FIREARMS, IT'S IMPOSSIBLE for what you said to be true.

You see the horror of what can come of guns and yes they are absolutely terrible. The gun violence you see on TV is MOSTLY from ILLEGALLY obtained firearms. That's the problem. If you can't stop present and future criminals from obtaining illegal firearms, why would/should you take away my guns?

Of course I know guns are harmful. Now you're putting words in my mouth. Guns being potentially harmful is irrefutable. That's a fact. The problem isn't the guns, it's the gun owners and yes of course you can't have "gun owners" w.o guns.

What other emotion is conveyed when you bold type "WHY?" in some 10x size font? You insinuated that I would shoot someone b.c they piss me off b.c I'm carrying a gun. So what other thought would go through my head other than "this guy thinks everyone in America who carries a gun is a threat". You assume I'm a threat to you being a gun owner and you don't know me. The two things I can tell you right now are there is not a person in this country who is safer with their guns than and I am as mentally healthy as they come (minus my E, lol). I promise you, I am NO threat to the safety to any innocent bystander.

Protection and sport are MY purposes for MY guns. MY guns are under lock and key and the ammunition for those guns is under a DIFFERENT lock and key. MY guns are 100% as safe as can be. NO ONE handles my guns w.o my permission and knowledge. Guns are a hobby of mine, it's a sport, shooting a target, testing your marksmanship is a skill and I never want to put lead through another person's body. That has no piece of the pie chart of reasons why I own guns.

His mom knew there was something wrong with him and let him have weapons, sorry I don't fully blame her but she's not at all innocent in this matter.

I don't feel like a badass with my .45 strapped to my hip. I don't go arround doing w.e I please knowing that the first person to get in my face has to stare down the barrel of my gun.

If you can think of a way to keep guns away from the loonies and the criminals by all means do it. I am not a threat, MY guns are NO threat. It's a hobby I grew up with, that's all (to me). MY weapons come with no malicious intent attached to them.

^Great post

Hey guys, again, this is a passionate debate for people on both sides. No one is right, and no one is wrong. Please be respectful in other peoples decisions and opinions rather then pointing fingers. Thanks. :)

I'd love to see this thread stay open but if it gets too heated it will have to be shut down.

Violent video games do one of two things. They let a sane person do something they KNOW is in a fantasy world and that they are incapable of doing in the physical world. OR Fuel the sadistic desires of an insane individual creating a recipe for disaster. In NEITHER case is it the root of the cause. The video games nor anyone involved in the making of the video games is at all responsible for what happened.

Marilyn Manson cancelled his tour b.c ignorant people blamed him for what happened at Columbine b.c he was an easy target. Wasn't the case but hey right wing FTW.

Bad people make bad decisions. Crazy people make incomprehensible decisions. Unless you can tell me who they are today, you won't stop them from hurting people tomorrow. Case and point, MY guns are no ones concern or problem. NO ONE needs to worry about the LEGALLY owned guns locked SAFELY away in my house out of reach of all while the ATF is just building and building cases against the real horrors. You want to act like you care or really show some support, as far as I know (I may be wrong), they're the ones going after the bad guys. Taking away Cheski's guns will save ZERO lives.

I think the second amendment needs to remain intact. Being able to defend one's self in an emergency situation is a basic human right that shouldn't be tampered with by people in power.

I wasn't saying the video games nor the maker of these ARE BE HELD RESPONSIBLE for what happened.

I saying this games are violent and with young children seeing this a lot, this has mess with someone mind.

This is possible but don't forget these games we are talking about have a rating of "M" for Mature. 17+. If mommy feels she has to give in to the kid's needs and buy them this game b.c she wants to make junior happy, she needs to keep an eye on him. I'm 25, I grew up with "M" rated games prior to my 17th birthday but I wasn't allowed to play most of them. My mother stood her ground, hated her for it, (<3 I LOVE YOU MOMMY!!! <3). My dad was fully against me playing paintball, I knew the difference btwn fantasy and reality, but it didn't matter, nor was I allowed to do that. I grew up in a house where I shot my first .22 rifle at 7, wasn't allowed to play paintball until I was 17.

I'm not a parent but I would assume it's a 24/7 job. When it comes to the dangers in the world my plan is going to be to expose my kids to the dangers in this world so they are knowledgeable about them but not go into harm's way. Like a vaccine to a disease, you get a taste of it so you know what to expect. I HATE when parents bubble their kids off from real life issues. <<Sry, I'm not trying to offend anyone but I 100% disagree with this, it's how my girlfriend was raised and I am having to teach her basic life skills b.c she was never taught anything outside of her family's bubble.

Sry for the rant, back to the OP, case and point when it comes to KIDS and games. PARENTS are the people responsible for this. <<I DID NOT SAY SCHOOL SHOOTINGS! I said responsible for exposing their kids to "M" rated games they may not/are not ready for.

p.s. The world ends in 3 days, so go out and HAVE FUN! DON'T KILL ANYONE!! Just HAVE FUN!!!

Gun control is a political issue. I wish to remind everyone here that CWE is not the place to discuss political and/or religious issues:
My moderating team has alerted me that part of the moderator guidelines I set up for them state the following (and it's something I thought I had posted publicly, but apparently neglected):
Taboo topics - This is a peer support forum and the Lounge forum is supposed to be a fun place. Threads discussing religion or politics do not belong as they are divisive.

When I say politics, I don't mean discussing laws or EFA lobbying efforts - I mean ideological discussions. If you see threads/posts on taboo subjects, go ahead and soft delete them and send the poster a PM explaining why it was deleted (you can copy the first two sentences above if you like).

CWE is a place for peer support in living with epilepsy. Generating a heated "debate" about gun control is not conducive to that mission.
