Hi everyone! I thought I would drop by and let ya'all know that I am still on this planet. Things have been pretty rough lately and I didn't think it was appropriate for me to be on here for awhile. Even my neuro started handling me with kid-glove if that is any indicator, lol. The good news is that I haven't had a big seizure since June or July. The bad news is my eyesight is deteriorating and I have unexplainable behavioural issues now and severe cognitive problems. I was also diagnosed with fibromyalgia last week and they don't know if it is causing the other stuff or not. The neuro is adamant it isn't my meds but she won't rule out the E. I've been having an ambi EEG about every other month now and just had another MRI. I'm also being tested for something called Sjogrens which I don't really understand. Basically my world got turned upside down and I became a really nasty person who no one could deal with. I have good days and bad days now and do my best not to lash out at people. It is hardest on my family because they aren't use to my being like this...I am the rock everyone has always counted on and now they can't.

Anyway, just wanted to let everyone know I'm okay and hope ya'all had a good holiday :)

Beth

Hey Beth, thanks for the update. Thumbs up on being seizure-free, thumbs down on the other stuff. What meds are you on? They all can potentially affect mood, so I wouldn't rule them out entirely...

Sjogrens is a autoimmune disorder, like rheumatoid arthritis (sometimes co-occuring with as well). It often shows up as very dry eyes and mouth. Are you having those symptoms? They can test for it with blood tests, among other things.

Keep us posted, and let us know if we can help. Don't forget The Padded Room when you really want to vent :)

Hi Beth, good to hear from you. Sounds like you have been though quite an ordeal. Wishing you more good days in 2011.

Beth,

It is so good to hear from you. I'm sorry you are having such a hard time. Really, sometimes I don't know what's worse - the seizures or the meds.

Your meds sure could cause fibromyalgia. Why is it that our doctors always say, "it can't be the meds" when it so clearly is. I'm on lamictal right now and it's causing muscle soreness and pain, amongst a whole list of other things. I'm not sure how it would come out when they do that pain-point test, because everything pretty much hurts.

I've really missed you in here. Feel free to come in here and get cranky with us, especially in the padded room. We understand.

I did try to blame the pain on the meds straight away, especially since I had been on the lamictal for a long time and it seemed that my joints have been hurting just as long. My neuro said no because it turned out that my joints had been hurting longer than I had been on the drugs :( She has my records from my old neuro and he is the one who first prescribed the lamictal.

As for the Sjogrens thing; yes, I have dry eyes and a very dry mouth and nose. The rheumy stuck paper sticks in my eyes to measure my tear production and I about went nuts. I can't stand anything in my eyes which is why I stopped wearing contacts. It was misery! One of my eyes teared a little and the other didn't tear at all. Then she looked at my mouth and asked me if I had problems eating bread or crackers without drinking something and I said yes. Then she ordered the tests.

Thanks for the welcome back you guys :)
