Since my first seizure a couple of months ago I've been taking I've been diganosed with "interictal dysphorique disorder" by my psychiatrist and Temporal Lobe Epilepsy by my neurologist. So i'm under 2 different medications

I've tried being only at one at a time and it is NOT possible. I don't know anyone with a similar case as mine. I've posted my story for anyone whose go some time to read it, its really long, sorry!

Epilepsy is a VAST VAST domain....neruology really. Good luck everyone wishing you the best and all the health in the world

Meds: Topiramate and Paroxetine

Unfortunately, Depression does accompany TLE. I have epilepsy and my seizures originate in the hippocampus, therefore I suffer from depression, at times was suicidal, also. So YES, there are plenty of us just like you!! I used to see a neuropsychiatrist who specialized in Epilepsy and Mood Disorders. We tried quite a few anti-depressants before he discovered the connection. Some of the AEDs are also used for mood stabilizers. And some of the anti-depressants can lower the seizure threshold. My shrink put me on a tricyclic anti-depressant originally because of this.

Dysphoric disorder and depression
Dysphoria means loss of pleasure or joy. (You may know the more common word euphoria, which means extreme joy. They share the same root.) Many people who have epilepsy experience dysphoric episodes. These episodes, which can last between a few hours and a few days, consist of depressive moods, irritability, lack of energy, pain, anxiety, insomnia, and euphoric moods. Usually they are part of a syndrome known as interictal dysphoric disorder instead of being linked to recent or upcoming seizures. (Interictal means "between seizures.")

Hi Ouarezki,

Cint gave you some great advice. I also have temporal lobe epilepsy and it can cause depression and also for a person to be very emotional. Just like Cint I saw a neuropsychiatrist and I was able to find out what was causing all of this for me and how a lot of it had to do with the scar on my right temporal lobe. I wish you the best of luck and May God Bless You!

Cint THANK YOU

you've actually explained it pretty well, dysphoric loss of please, simple as!

My spcyitrist didn't want to go into detail on this diagnosis because he knows i'm very paranoid and would go on and ask a thousand more questions and then obsess over it and feel doomed.

Porkette, are you doing better depression wise? And may I ask do you get non tonic epilepsy fits ?
