Ok well ill start at the beginning and then get to my question.
I'm 18 and recently around the middle of feb got diagnosed with tempral lobe epilepsy. When i have a sezure I just blank out and space out, if im standing and have one I look like im drunk and all unbalanced, make this weird breaving noise that I am unaware of and get an intense sickie feeing. I am still getting it under control and slowly stepping up the dosage of the drug im having to get it under control. I have had a couple of sezure within the last 2 week.

So this is my question. I have an interview for an apprenticeship that would start in september, on wensday and I dont know if I should mention at the start of the interview that I have recently been diagnosed with epilepsy and that I am on medication that is brining it under control how ever its not fully under control at the moment but it will hopefully be in September. And that if I appear blank and not with it for 30 seconds during the interview this is why. And then get after this on with the interview.

Or if I should only mention it if I have one during the interview. However I think this could give a bad impression.

Thanks for your help and hope you can understand what I mean/asking :)

I shadow her response but I have a similar but not exact dilemma.

I have JME and in 'conversations' anymore, my speech is getting affected. I 'stutter' and 'sputter' and my trunk jerks to the side. I've had a bunch of just PHONE interviews and I've been jerking all over the place... I'll look crazed with rabies if this happens in the interview.

My mother gave me the suggestion of taking a couple shots of vodka and orange juice before the interview only because alcohol is a natural fast-acting depressant (I have no access to health care or medications...)

Beyond drinking before an interview... if it's gonna happen and I'm gonna 'brain hiccup' all throughout the interview... should I let them know ebfore hand? I'm almost certain I'm gonna 'jerk' while talking and I'll 'stutter' and lsoe ability to speak 'cuz the interview is so high anxiety and stress... but... it almost feels like a disqualifier to come right out and say, 'oh, I've got a neurological disorder which may or may not cause me to be a liability to you....'

I have lost three jobs due to my epilepsy. This question has come up before on the forum and you will get different answers to your question. But personaly i wouldn't mention epilepsy.Lets be honest here,if the job comes down to two people, one with epilepsy and one without, who do you think they are going to pick? As i say thats just my opinion,it's totally up to you.Good luck whatever you decide.

Yea, I usually go the 'pray they don't notice' route with my 'jerks.' They always happen a few times in interviews, but not been too bad. My myoclonus is wildly worse though, since I was last working, a year ago.

I think they'll notice but hopefully it don't matter.

Yip,i go that way to and pray nothing happens.I get the feeling if you tick YES to epilepsy, your application form ends up in the bin.

I agree with everyone. Only mention it if it happens and try not to worry about it because that could make matters worse. Sincere good luck and best wishes for your job interview. I hope you are successful.

I have never mentioned epilepsy in an interview, because I know that would definitely be a turn off to employers. I got hired at a pretty good company back in January, and had a seizure just a few weeks ago. Then, and only then, did I tell them.

I wish you nothing but the best with your interview!
