I'm fresh to this forum, and to the topic of epilepsy in general. I've been to the doctor regarding recent occurrences in my health, and he assured me that it was just a 'panic' attack for no reason. All of my tests came back fine. I'll describe to you guys what's been going on, and maybe you could help me figure out for sure what's going on? Or at least rule out the possibility of it being a seizure.

In the past few months I've had the following symptoms increase: inner earaches(sometimes moderate to severe), metallic taste in mouth, headaches, headaches and nausea upon waking, etc. I normally never get headaches.

About 1 week ago, I noticed for the first time a bitter metallic taste in my mouth while driving to work in the morning. It wouldn't go away after eating or drinking, and it was potent enough to where it bothered me. About 30 minutes later when I was at work, (cleaning houses, easy stuff), and my boss was showing us how to clean window blinds, I suddenly felt overpowered with anxiety. I felt a lack of control and was wondering why I was so nervous....I then felt nauseous and was certain I would throw up, yet I did not. Immediately my vision got spotty, and my hearing went out (i could hear muffled ringing/buzzing, like ear muffs were placed over my ears). I was completely disoriented and fell to the floor, certain I was going to pass out, but after 15-30 secs, I didn't. I then broke out in a huge sweat all over my body.

They handed me some water and said not to worry, that I was probably dehydrated (not true), and that it had happened to them. However, I felt like this was something much more serious. I've never experienced anything close to this, so it scared me.

I sat there for a few minutes, trying to regain my strength. Then the inner ear (where I get the earaches) began to burn for a minute. Next, my entire face felt red-hot. Then, for the next 15 minutes or so, my hands and feet were tingling.

I remember cleaning and having my arms (and body) feel unusually tired...just dead like I'd just finished a workout, like I barely had the energy to wipe down a kitchen sink.

That was about 1 week ago, and I've still had the metallic taste in my mouth since then, on and off throughout the day.

In the last week after the 'episode', I've begun waking up with very sore jaws (teeth clenching?) and very sore body parts (inner thighs, arms...random places), like I just did a workout. I'm extremely tired when I get home, and often pass out completely by 1 am. Normally I will stay up until 4-5 and wake up around 8 or 9 with lots of energy (I've had issues with bi-polar, etc. Lack of sleep--or no sleep-- doesn't effect my energy usually).

I've been getting lots of sleep (at least a lot more than usual), yet still feel a bit tired.

These occurrences are also not normal for me.

Is it possible that I'm starting to get seizures, or anything like seizures? I don't know the specifics of them, so I just wanted to see if you guys could help me out.

Thanks,
Kara

Hey,

I can't say I've had anything like bitter tastes or such, however the paragraph I've quoted above sounds a lot like I feel after I've woken up from a seizure.
The muscle pain and sore mouth (especially tongue) are the main problems as you contract the muscles in your body (well that's what I've been told - I've never actually seen a fit!) and it's common to bite down on your tongue (I do most times)

If you think the problems are at night as well as the "episodes" in the day, and don't have anyone around to watch you, try and set up a webcam or video recorder when you go to sleep (obviously with night mode or appropriate lighting) and watch it back in the morning, this could explain what's happening during your sleep even if it isn't seizures!

Hi Kara, welcome to CWE!

The symptoms you describe could be neurological in origin -- perhaps migraines or seizures. Your best bet is to contact your doctor and get checked out. Write down as much as you can remember about when the symptoms started, how they have progressed, and how frequently they are occurring.

Did you have your symptoms before you started the cleaning job? Is it possible that they have been caused or made worse by any cleaning solvents you use at work? Many cleaning chemicals can have neurotoxic side effects.

Best,
Nakamova

After I have a seizure I'll sometimes have horrible headaches and I'll be very tired. I had one today and I think I slept 8 hours during the day after it.

I usually spend most of the day at home alone so I could be having seizures that I don't know I'm having because sometimes I'll have a headache or be tired.

As Nakamova said, try and write as many details about what happens so when you go to the dr you won't forget to tell him anything and it could be easier to figure out what is causing this, seizures or something else.
