Ok so i'm forgetful . I've been on meds like 2 months. missed it once like last month.

And missed it yesterday too.
Is that gonna give me a lot of problems and i will die?
or how does it work?

and by the way, my seizures haven't been controlled as of yet but i'm still taking the meds because i haven't been told to stop.

No it is not the end of the world, we all forget at some stage if we are honest, I did last week. Do not stop taking the medication until you are told but they could have to try different medications to help get some control, so do not worry. I have alarm set on my phone to remind me to take my medication but I need another alarm as my phone went dead where I forgot to charge it, so a back up would be a good idea. This thing about going to die, try and get that out of your head its doing you no good, only making you worry. It works like this we take medication to control or try to control the seizures but we are human and it is possible forget, thats not the end of the world, just take it normal amount again next time do not add in what you forgot, so if you take 200mg in the morning 600mg at noon and 400mg at 8.00, if you forget the 600 mg at noon just carry on and take the 400 at 8.00. tthats it.

I think it's different for everyone. Some may have no issues with missing a dose, while others may screw up their levels that results in bringing on a seizure. He'll, I've read here claims that even not taking their AED's at the exact same time every day negatively affects them.

I missed my evening dose a few weeks ago and thankfully the worst that happened was my fears. I also hardly ever take my AED's at the same time everyday, most often a discrepancy of one to two hours.

I have to religiously take my AEDs the same time every day. In order to remember to take them, I use a daily pill box. If a person who takes the meds like we do were to go off all their seizure meds abruptly, then their could definitely be a problem. But just missing one dosage shouldn't cause a problem.

I notice you guys said you have to take it at the same time each day. WEll ,, mmm i don't do that. They just took me to take one every night. And night can mean 9pm or 10pm or whatever. I don't take it at the same time every night. Was I supposed to ?

I was always told 12 hours apart, so yes, more or less the same time every day, give or take an hour, to keep the blood serums level. I am paranoid about missing any, my one screw up was to take two doses because I thought I'd forgotten but then found I hadn't. I have the am/pm pill sorter, and a little "reminder" vase by my sink, so when the vase is on the east side I know I've taken my afternoon dose and the next one will be in the morning, then I move it to the west and so forth. My am/pm thing is kind of cool because it's little pods (see amazon, it's light & dark blue) and they pop out so you can spin them around, another easy way to see if I'm on track.
Also - don't stop unless you're told because usually you have to be ramped off. I know someone who just figured they were OK and just stopped taking anything. Led to massive t/c sz's and brain damage, so follow doctor's orders...

niceguy,
If you haven't already it might pay to get a pillbox which will help you remember to take your meds. There are a few posts on here with ways to remember to take meds.
I also have a little alarm which you can set for 4 different times, I have it set to go of at 7am every morning & 7pm every night.

I do usually take my meds with my breakfast & dinner but the alarm is a good backup.

Usually I am pretty good with remembering to take my meds but there is the odd time I do forget & so far I have had no problems.
I recently had a medication change & a few days after I started the new med change I completely forgot my PM meds one night, didn't even realise until the following morning when I went to take my AM meds.

Thanks everybody. I'll try all the sugestions.
THing is . The doctor didn't tell me i need to follow specific times. He just said . take one each night. So i didn't think i had to take it at the same time every night.
And the sticker from the pharmacy just says "1 each day" So there is no specific time there either.

I forget sometimes and luckily I haven't had issues. But that's just me.

If I do that sometimes I have seizures
get one of those they are called webster packs and most pharmacies supply them at a cost or free.

Like most people, I have forgotten the odd dose and sometimes I've had a seizure and sometimes not - inconsistent enough that I wonder if I was "due" for a seizure anyway. A few times I intentionally substantially reduced a dose, usually out of desperation to give myself a break from side effects, and one time I skipped the daytime dose altogether when I had something very important going on and I needed to be in full control (alert, coordinated, etc.). Not smart, and I certainly don't make a habit of it.

Not taking your medicine can increase your chances of having seizures especially status epileptius (long lastling seizure) I suppose it depends on the medication though. It's dangerous to skip it, but I've read that a person who takes it only once daily are more at risk at having a seizure or long lasting one than those who takes it twice... It's best to ask your doctor these questions though, since epilepsy is complex.

"Always take your medication on time and as directed. Missing a dose can cause you to have a seizure. Never not stop taking or change medications without talking to your doctor first." That's not the one I read a while back just thought I'd let you know.

I've forgotten a dose of my meds before and haven't had any problems. I admit I've been afraid that I'm going to have seizure after seizure when I've forgotten it but I never had.

I have an alarm set on my cell to make sure I take it on time. There have been times when the alarm goes off and I'll be in the middle of something and I say "I'll take it when I'm done doing this". Next thing I know I go to take my next dose and see the last one is still in the pill box.

I take my am meds at 7 afternoon meds at 2 and pm meds at 7. The dr told me to split the times out evenly and take them at the same time every day. I've taken them an hour early or late and haven't had any problems with that either.

I have two week long pill boxes that I keep my meds in. My am meds are in a pill box that I keep in the bedroom. My afternoon and evening meds are in another pill box that I keep in the living room. By doing this I make sure I don't grab the pills out of the wrong box and take them instead.

I take my medicne reliously but I've never been controlled and I can have a seizure for know reason at all.I've been taking AEDs for50 years and have been on like 23 different meds myself.
