Is there any Epileptologists in my area?

I've been reading about others successes with Epileptologists for a bit. It's seems like something I should try. I already see a Neurologist, but he hasn't been too much help lately.
He just adds to my CPS stress. I was hoping to locate a Epileptologist in my area. I'll need to be able to get to this person by public transportation. So they will need to be located in the Capital District Area of NY. The Epileptologist will need to be on the bus line, or close to it in one of these cities: Albany, Troy, Rensselaer, Schenectady, Colonie.

Because my current Neurologist is being such a PITA, I can't ask him. If I did, he'd just have a hissy-fit. That's what he did when I asked about Neurofeedback. :(

I really would like to see if a Epileptologist can help me. If anyone can locate one for me, please post the information here. My CPS seems to be getting a bit worse. I am probably developing a tolerance to my AED.

An epileptologist is really just a neurologist that specialises in epilepsy.

If you don't get anyone specific recommended, you should phone the neuros in your area & ask if they specialise in any particular pathology or illness (though I hate referring to E as an "illness").

Also could it be possible your neuro just had a fit when asking about neurofeedback because it's not in the medical mainstream or is he competitive with other neuros as well?

I could always call, but that is too direct. The Neurologist I see now works with most of the others in the area. But unfortunately none of them list a specialty in Epilepsy. Most are just listed under Neurology & Neurosurgeon, etc. I'd like to locate an Epileptologist in my area without involving my Neurologist. As it stands now my PCP provides me better care. He listens to me, answers all my questions, and provides me the best care possible.

That's part of it. IMHO he's a pill pusher, gone mad. He has already been pushing for me to get the surgery. Now that the AED road as almost at an end, he'll be pushing even more. I wouldn't say he's competitive with others. But he is one of the bosses.
 
I found an Epileptoligist last fall and love his practice! My neurologist was no help at all, I was in and out of his office in less than 10 min. Never had any interest about what was going on in my life, (stress, my home life, etc.) and never directly answered my questions, he was very 'old school' and set in his ways.
My Epil. was asking about everything I had questions on and at my first visit we talked for almost 2 1/2 hours! He explained all the questions I had and even asked my husband about what he had experienced with my seizures.
Wonderful dr and wonderful practice he has. He is open to all approaches that can be taken and has changed my meds and even expressed his worries and concernes about generic drugs.

As prev. post said, a neuro is a dr that works with ALL patients that have something that have anything to do with the brain, (nerves, spinal injuries, brain injuries, etc.)

The way that I found my epileptoligist is by googleing Epileptoligists in Idaho.
 
Actually there are "Level 4" and "Top Liners"
Neurologists out there - and some of them
specializes in Epilepsy/Seizures ~ but they
just do not like to be called "Epileptologist"
or like the name either, and prefers to be
known as a Neurologist.

Then there are those Neurologists that are
also Professors or Associate Professors and
they are often specialists in all areas in the
Neuroscience field ~ such as it is in my case
with my own Neurologist (who is a Level 4
caliber and then some in his own right).

If you are CLOSE to a University with a Hospital
you would have a better chance of landing, I
mean snatching up a Neurologist Professor or
Neurologist Associate Professor - even if the
University has "branches" - they are often well
knowledgeable and much more "modernized"
and far more open-minded to everything (being
the professors that they are - they LISTEN).

Whether it is a Neurologist or Epileptologist, one
good thing about having one that is a Professor
or Associate Professor is --- they are NOT quick
to put the cart before the horse. You might think
they are slow; but they are excellent thinkers,
because their own reputation is on the line and
they are examples for their own students! And
plus, they love a challenge!

Sometimes IT IS worth the drive to get one - if
he/she is not "nailed down" with patients!

Come on... you are BIG MAN. Seems you are far too concerned with your doctors reaction than your own health. If he has a hissy fit that is his issue not yours. This is your life and you only have one. If that means taking a field trip to a few offices than I suggest that you do that. Or contact the local hospital and ask who they recommend.

I think I would be tempted to say "thank you for your time, but this relationship has worn itself out".
 
Epileptologist

I am looking for an Epileptologist in the Las Vegas, NV area. Dr. Linda M Brown was the only one I knew of a few years ago, and was wondering if anyone knows if she is still here. I would like to talk anyone and everyone about getting my Seizures under control and have a life.

You can locate epilepsy centers throughout the US.
It's definitely a hassle to have a difficult doctor!
After a year of having my smell distortion, I went to an ENT who totally blew me off. I finally went to a second one some months later, who was the one who suggested I see a neurologist. Thank goodness, as it seems simple partial seizures are the issue! We definitely need to advocate for our own selves!
 
I did find my Epileptologist through a recommendation from a patient of his and the Neurologist I used to have. The Epileptologist I have is in a university hospital. Took months for an appointment but well worth it. The key with him is he does research and like Junebug the 1st appointment was over 2 hrs. Every appointment after has been 30 minutes.
I felt odd about asking my Neuro also but he turned out to have a great attitude on this. You never know till you ask and you can always ask over the phone.

I did find a a website called vitals.com and it rates doctors and could help locate. Best of luck in your quest and I wish I could help more.
 
Phylis FJ, I see Robert Weschler in Boise, Idaho. He and his Physicians Assistant, Jeff, are both wonderful and Robert is always up-to-date in all the latest medical technology and new meds available. I never end up stressing out because they don't get back to me when I have a "bad day" and things are all out-of-whack, and they will always get back to me with my drug levels . . . good or bad. I'd reccomend them to anyone! :)
 
No problem PhylisFeinerJohnson. My Epileptologist is also my Neuro. Dr. Privitera at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center.
 
Many thanks. I'm sure lots of people will benefit from your recommendation. (The largest number of visits to my website concerns Top Neurologists...Epileptologists...Neurosurgeons and Pediatric Doctors.) So you can see how much you're helping others.

Since this post, I have seen Dr Bangolore and had a video EEG to determine if I am a candidate for surgery. I'm still waiting for the results or lack there of.
 
Bigman-

Look for major medical facilities in the towns listed, look for a longterm EEG monitoring program. Most hospital/med center web sites list the affiiated doctors and their specialties. An Epileptologist is a Neurologist who did an extra 1yr fellowship in epilepsy and seizures and EEG.

If your neurologist is a PITA, maybe you just need a neurologist who has a interest in seizures. Not all neurologists are created equal.
