In October the neuro told me I am having been having simple partial seizurers. They started 3 1/2 years ago the day after a stroke. She has never used the term epilepsy. I assume I have epilepsy even though she hasn't really said that. I meant to ask her when I had an appointment last week but she had to cancel the appointment at the last minute.

Do you think this qualifies as epilepsy or something else?

after having them 3.5 years- all research i've read shows, profoundly, that it is epilepsy. have never heard of continuous partials (focal, aka specific location rather than generalized seizures which are the entire brain) that aren't diagnosed as epilepsy.

Many stroke survivors who experience seizures do not develop epilepsy; however, stroke survivors with seizures a month or more after a stroke are more at risk for epilepsy.

hence my comment on 3.5 years. this is insightful info on your situation MAB (imo it's best to start demanding answers from her, with research in your hands)...

Thanks for the info.

I have only been seeing her since Oct. I see her again in 2 weeks. My previous neuro treated them as if they were transient ischemic attacks.

I agree, you have had two or more seizures so that technically would fit the definition if epilepsy.

I've had 100's, probably close to a 1000 in the last 3 1/2 years.

and you're referring to simple partials... close to 1000? well welcome to mine and arnie's club, tons and tons of 'em!
i don't see how this isn't epilepsy, esp. with that many and that they're s.p.'s - this type of constant seizure recurrence is part of epilepsy, 99.9 per cent of the time.

The good news is I haven't had any that I know of since Nov. 7. I could have them in my sleep and not know except I'm sure I would be completely exhausted for at least a day if I did have them while asleep.

A few years ago my grandma had maybe 3 seizures in her sleep over two months. I don't know if the drs actually said that she had epilepsy but they did put her on keppra. She stayed on it for half a year but couldn't deal with the side effects so stopped taking it. I think the dr put her on another med. I don't even know if she's still taking it but I know she hasn't had any seizures other than those ones at first.

However if you are having as many seizures as you say you are then I'd say you have epilepsy. I hope you can get in to see her soon and get some answers.
