I having problems starting thread, but here goes
My Mir scan has showed ischmic area on my briain and fatty area they say may been stroke but I wondering if e can cause this or lamotrgine has anyone else have this.they trying get me to neurologist but not one in hospital doc trying find hospital that got one at present the eye doctor dealing with it but he say the squint from stroke and he says only neurologist can tell me more.he not sure what to say about e doing it

Hi seagull,

It would be extremely unlikely for lamotrigine to cause a small stroke (TIA -- Transient Ischemic Attack) or to cause any narrowing or damage to the blood vessels in the brain. I think you can probably rule that out as a factor.

It would be unlikely for epilepsy to cause a stroke unless head trauma during a seizure led to a stroke. It's more likely for a stroke to cause epilepsy/seizure symptoms, or for both the stroke and the epilepsy to be caused by the same underlying issue with the blood vessels in the brain. The best way to sort things out though is to see a neurologist and to have an MRI/MRA done (which takes a closer look the brain and it's vascular structure). I hope you can see a neuro soon.

The only time I've heard of someone having a stroke due to E, was when this person was undergoing a temporal lobectomy for seizures. A stroke can happen (not very often) during brain surgery. Like Nak said, I think you can rule out Lamotrigine as being the cause of a stroke.

Thanks for those answers I guess I was hoping I could find reason other than life style.i got be honest with myself years of smoking caught up with me.given it up now obviously bit late

I had a stroke that causes my seizures. The only reason they came with me having a stroke (I was very healthy) was a small hole in my heart . It was there since birth but I didn't know about it.

Better late than never

Quitting smoking is a good idea in general, but it does not necessarily have to be the cause of a stroke.

From the WebMD link I posted above:

"Daily cigarette smoking can increase the risk of stroke by 2½ times.

The risk of stroke and TIA decreases for those who quit smoking. If you smoked less than one pack a day and you quit, within 5 years your risk will be the same as though you had never smoked."

So no, not every smoker's strokes are caused by the smoking but why increase your risk by 250% for something that smells nasty anyway? (IMO)

The second paragraph shows that quitting is worth it. "Better late than never " indeed.

As a smoker of cigars and e-cigarettes I feel compelled to point out that smoking is a personal choice. You are welcome to smoke or not. Nobody can tell you what to do.

I never told you what to do either. I said it smelled nasty IMO and that I didn't think that it could ever be worth the stroke/lung cancer risk but that's my opinion. :)

Seagull has expressed a desire to quit (on several threads) so I think that offering some support in that direction would be helpful.

Cheerleading for smoker's rights when someone is trying their hardest to quit is about as considerate as offering a cocktail to someone you know is a recovering alcoholic.

Resorting to scare tactics and then claiming it was supportive of her desires doesn't exactly earn you kudos. Anyway, we're getting a bit off topic here.

So let's bring it back on topic which is Seagull's ischemic brain. Nobody can do anything about the past but, looking to the future, the question would be how to prevent any more TIAs or strokes from happening.

The WebMD quote was not a "scare tactic". It included some very helpful and hopeful information about the ability of the brain to heal itself once the person stops injuring themselves by smoking.

The take home message is to not give up. Never give up on your health.

The brain can heal it self?i don't understand the fatty deposits doc talking about neither did he said need see neuro but no nuro doc this going be problematic.
I got plateful of coconut ad litre of coconut water I trying not heave up you said this is good for brain

The scar on my brain from a stroke 5 1/2 years ago disappeared. I wish the seizures would have disappeared when the scar disappeared.

OT but coconut oil pulling is good for teeth and gums. Only mention it because I am doing it while typing this.

Thank you that cheered me up.the e I cope with not willingly and the constant live flesh I hate it go on for days in different parts of body but the memory even to basic English I forget that so depressing and I wonder if it come back.but really good to know brain scaring gone, did you do anything specific like diet

You're welcome,I glad I could help you a little.

I forget how to physically write or print and forget how to spell the most basic words after bad waves of seizures. I can't even remember how to spell my name.

I take a lot of anti-inflammatory supplements and other supplements but it probably just healed on it's own. I don't really know. Sadly while the scar disappeared an aneurysm formed on the other side of my brain.

I have been in a real funk the last few weeks, it's like, life just sucks.

I know what you mean..I use be good English math now I can't spell words with 4letters or most basic sums and I had have A'level in both they about as good as toilet paper now..just also frustrating.
What going to do about anyrism
