I haven't had a seizure now since January 2012 - yay me!
But I still think about it a number of times every day, and probably mention it a couple of times a week.
Is it time I moved on? Or am I right to be a little obsessed still?

Congratulations on being over a year seizure free! It was a massive, scary moment in your life which will take time to 'get over'. I don't think the fear of having another seizure goes but it does get better! Are you on any meds? What was your diagnosis?

Thanks Claire7. I'm on 2 x 400mg of Tegretol a day which, although is keeping me fit free, is messing with my memory and making me sooooooo tired...
Diagnosis? I'd just turned 40, no previous symptoms or warning signs, the doctor and neurologist were stumped. "Just one of those things..."

Similar to me. I went 4 years inbetween my first and second seizure. It was such a shock when the second one happened. I thought that nightmare in my life was over with. All test results fine. Neurologist just said that my seizure threshold must have dropped at that particular point due to a 'perfect storm' of triggers. eg. contraceptive pill that wasn't agreeing with me, illness, possible dehydration and most importantly STRESS!!!

I am on 200mg of lamictal a day now but I wanted to go on it as I was scared of having another, especially with having children to take care of. I have just started to develop a few side effects even though I have been on this dose for 5 months. Slight memory issues and a bit of dizziness when I don't eat regularly. Also a bit of backache but not sure if its related or not!

Is there any chance of reducing your meds slightly now you have been fit free for over a year? I'm not sure how high your dose is and whether it is possible to reduce or not. has your neurologist suggested anything?

I think something like epilepsy has a lasting effect on us, even if we become seizure-free. It's an invisible scar. Even in the best of health -- maybe especially then -- we still carry the fear of what can occur with no warning.

I've been seizure-free nearly four years. I don't talk about epilepsy very much, but I also haven't moved on from it (and not just because of my presence here at CWE).
