does anyone know the meds for seizures around your monthly? I went to the doctor today and she upped my meds to 800mg of tegretol and has also put me on paxil , on top of klnopin too and vit D every day... kidney meds blah blah:egg: . she said if upping my dose doesn't work we will have to change meds... IM really not to excited about changing meds any advice Would be nice..

if I remember right, progesterone, a natural female hormone, is a a seizure INHIBITOR. You might see about adding that to your regimen, or seeing first if there is a deficit.......ask your docs for some blood testing...

That was my first question to her
. she said NO we need to up your meds she said my last blood test showed my tegretol levels mid line...." my last doctor did up my meds around my monthly.. then he had me lower them when i stopped my cycle." thats when i was on keppra.

My dr told me to up my Lamictal too but that didn't work so he wrote me a script for diamox/acedazolimide to take 4 days before my monthly cycle.

can I buy this from a health foods store? the natural kind of progesterone? Im ready to try anything right now
my doctor i think was going to give me some type of hormone, she asked me if i smoked and decided not to put me on it " I smoke" she was thinking about putting me on FOR pmdd pms" could cause stroke or heart attack if you smoke.....I really didnt ask her any more questions about that...
I have to go see her in another month & two weeks for more blood test tegretol levels & an comprehensive metabolic test (chem 14) whatever that is i think its to check my vit levels i should have asked but id been waiting in the office for about 45 min and was ready to leave lol I was there for about two hours because they got me in with out an appointment so it took forever to see the doctor...

Hi Angel~
My neuro had me try a birth control pill. With the help of my primary physician, we settled on Seasonique. This is the one that you take for 3 straight months, then has a week of low-dose estrogen which brings on a period. There is a high incidence of break-through bleeding (which has diminished over time) associated with this--the only side effect for me.
Good thing is, my seizure activity during that time lessened considerably, I'm less irritable, etc. For me, it has been a blessing, but it's not for everyone. As much as I didn't want to add another pill into the mix, I'm glad I did.

Talk with them about adding clonazipine, for that time of the month, instead of upping your dose & adding another - Everyday drug. Just remember, this type of med. can make you verry sleepy. Especially, since it'll only be used, durring that time of month; your body will probably Not develop a tolerence or adjust to it enough, for this side effect to go away. Best of luck, to you.
