Just wondering if there are people (grown-ups) to whom keto helped to reduce seizures?
Here in Europe i do bot see much info about it. Looks like it is only works for children. Anyone has some info?

Hi Alice,

I was on the keto diet for about a year but I lost to much weight and had to go off the diet. It did good reducing my
seizures. If you take the drug Diamox you have to go off of that before you can go on the diet. I had to eat 4 grams of fat
for every gram of protein. In the beginning you have to fast for a couple of days and sometimes the Dr. will want to put a person
in the hospital so their body can adjust to the diet. If you are able get the book titled "The Epilepsy Diet Treatment" By Dr. John
Freeman, this explains all about the diet and how it works along with giving a few recipes also. With all the fat I was eating it built
up ketones in my body which in turn reduced my seizures. You have to cut back on carbs and starch foods and eat high fat foods.
What really amazed me is my blood pressure and heart did very well along with my cholesterol because I burnt the fat off for energy
instead of carbs and starch foods. You can work with a dietician and go on the diet this is how I did it.
Wishing you only the best of luck and May God Bless You!

Sue

Dear Sue, that is exactly my problem - I can not find the doc who is treating adults with keto. The last article (I think it was French, but I am not sure, it was some time ago) said that since nobody is sure it works for adults and all that takes too much time&trouble it is really not worth even trying. That is why I was asking. And where were you treated ( if it is not too much to ask?)
Take care and all the best
Alice

Hi Alice,
Since my health ins. refused to cover me seeing a Dietician after I read the book I told you about I did the diet on my
own and it was easy. The book explained how the diet worked and how a person should slowly do the diet. I did speak
with a dietician and she was a big help to me also. Do you have a dietician that you could speak with about the diet I always
heard that the diet was for kids but my cousin was on the diet during WWII and was flying planes and he never had a single
seizure until he came home and went off the diet.
Wishing You only the Best of Luck and May God Bless You,

Sue

Dear Sue, that is exactly the problem. Here keto is not very popuar with the docs/dieticians and I can not risk doing it on my own because of my stomach
But thank you for the info
Take care,
Alice

You guys may find the following of interest. The Matthew's Friends web site specialises in the Ketogenic Diet. Here is the link: Home - Matthew's Friends - Ketogenic Diet (matthewsfriends.org)

Here is my story regarding B vitamins: (((*** 40 years on vitamin b6 ***))) | Epilepsy Forums (coping-with-epilepsy.com). It is now over 50 years on vitamin B6. I have an extremely rare condition known as PNPO Deficiency. My seizures are drug resistant.

As far as keto goes, I don't do keto. I usually end up losing too much weight. I follow a more paleo (low carb, but uses healthy carbs) diet. I find eliminating wheat, rice, corn, and soy help me tremendously. I nearly have a seizure when I have rice as I react so badly to it.

Adults can use this diet and have been here in the United States. The neurologist I visit isn't alternative medicine, but they utilize keto to help if necessary.

Thanks to everybody for the info and take care in this difficult time
Alice
