Klonopin side effects?

Has anyone had a problem with Klonopin? My first neuro put me on it years ago, but took me off of it, but I can't remember why. Well, my new neuro added it to my Vimpat a little over a week ago. After I'd been on it 4 days, my face started swelling, real puffy & red. I thought it was because I'd been crying a lot that day. But it didn't go away. Over the weekend, some friends I hadn't seen in quite a while mentioned it, one even asking if I was on prednisone. When I looked in the mirror a little later, my face was very swollen. I have an indentation on my hairline which is usually unnoticable, but the swelling was so bad that I had a huge indentation.

I had to go to the pharmacy to pick up a script & the pharmacist saw me & was alarmed by my face. He looked up Klonopin since it is the latest med I've been put on. It said 15% of patients have facial & ankle edema - it doesn't cause swelling anywhere else. He asked about my ankle & I told him that they have been swollen too. He said I need to contact my neuro immediately. I left a message for him this morning, but haven't heard from him yet.

Anyway, I just wondered if others had the same problem.

The Klonopin site says:
"Get emergency medical help if you have any of these signs of an allergic reaction: hives; difficulty breathing; swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat."

If you can stop taking the Klonopin safely, do so, and keep trying to reach your doctor. Go to the ER if that's what it takes.

My neuro's office finally called me back this morning & said to stop taking it immediately. I assume it will leave my system fairly quickly since I'd only been taking it 10 days.

I was surprised no one else replied, but since it causes that reaction in only 15% of patients, there aren't that many having this problem.

I always look up my meds, especially when something unusual starts to happen. I don't know why I didn't do it this time. Maybe just not thinking clearly. And I was assuming it was from crying. Anyway, thanks for your reply.
