I am on Topamax 100mg (25mg x 2 in the morning and 25mg x 2 at night).
Been on this dose for quite a while. I still get some seizures (partial seizures and auras) but it has helped though as mentioned previously I can't go past this dose (was prescribed for headaches). I am on no other anti-seizure medication. I see a neurologist who apparently knows about partial seizures on Monday.

However, on Sunday, I cycled to the place where I work voluntary. Now normally I have to change my shirt due to hyperhidrosis from any cycling. I had to cycle fast otherwise I would be late, or so I thought, I misjudged the time. Yet there wasn't a spot of sweat on me apart from a tiny bit on my hands where normally there would be loads. I thought that was strange, but locked my bike up, and waited to meet my girlfriend who I work there with.
I was feeling hotter than usual during the day, and was glad when it was time for a break, got several cool glasses of water instead of the usual tea or coffee.

I went swimming after the work, and didn't manage many lengths plus even though I was in a cool pool (the temperature is never right in that one), I was boiling.
I was cycling home but needed a rest, so made a short detour and stopped at my sisters. she said I didn't look well. I didn't feel it either. She said I was in no fit state to cycle home. But I needed my bike for the next day as there was a short journey where no buses go direct that I had to make. My urine is also a very dark orange instead of the usual clear colour.
Still not sweating properly now, and had the fan on and slept with cool pads every night, though I have still been far too hot.
Has anyone got any advice?

Thanks. :)

YOU ARE DEHYDRATED! If you are not sweating during exercise, then your body isn't cooling itself down because it doesn't have enough water to do so. This will make you vulnerable to heat stroke. And dark urine is also a sign you are dehydrated. You should drink tons of water or sports drinks, and make sure to eat foods with high water content.

I am already drinking a lot of water, I get excessive thirst anyway but been drinking even more water lately.
Is there anything else I can do?

Topomax is a med that can make one very thirsty and dehydrated. I take Topamax and drink plenty of water. At times when exercising, I don't sweat properly.

Drink plenty of liquids while you are taking Topamax. This will lower your risk of having kidney stones or an electrolyte imbalance. Call your doctor if you have ongoing vomiting or diarrhea. You can easily become dehydrated while taking this medication. If you need surgery, tell the surgeon ahead of time that you are using Topamax. You may need to stop using the medicine for a short time. Do not stop using this medicine without first talking to your doctor, even if you feel fine. You may have increased seizures if you stop using Topamax suddenly. You may need to use less and less before you stop the medication completely. Contact your doctor if your seizures get worse or you have them more often while taking Topamax.

You may need to call your dr.

Especially if you're cycling, try to drink at least a few big gulps of fluid every 15 minutes -- if not more often. (Most cyclists need about 28 fluid oz. per hour). Even after your ride is finished, keep drinking fluids. Your stomach doesn't empty fast enough for your body to get enough fluids while cycling.

Thanks. I have excessive sweating so sweat just from not doing anything and even more so if doing exercise no matter how light or slow. I do drink a lot of water, it's my main drink, though I do drink the odd tea or coffee too and the occasional can of Coke (not everyday).

The short bike ride I did was less than 15 minutes but I was still drinking a lot of water after.
I thought about energy drinks but nearly every one I pick up has aspartame in which is a trigger for me, and the ones that don't sell out pretty quickly here. In fact I've noticed all diet products not selling out like they used to until recently, everyone's buying the non-diet products and leaving anything diet on the shelves. Not just in one shop either (I live above a shopping centre), it's all of them.

I was on topomax for 3 years and one of the side effects I had from Topomax was not sweating. I was also infromed by the docotor to drink large amounts of water everyday. Also have blood work done every few months to check your thyroid and kidneys. I ended up on meds for my thyroid, as soon as I was taken off of topomax my thyroid went back to normal.

You don't need to drink Gatorade (esp. if it has Aspartame!). Orange juice or cranberry juice can help too.

As I have excessive sweating (well till Sunday I did) and feeling hot most of the time (but that's got a lot worse since Sunday), I asked my GP about doing another thyroid test as I hadn't had one for over a year but he said he wasn't neccessary. He didn't give me any advise about the Topamax at all.

when i was on topamax, i suffered a heat stroke while shovelling snow because i wasn't sweating. you need to go to your dr

I'm on Tomamax too and I'm constantly thirsty. I drink a ton! When I'm in the grocery store for long peirods of time I'll usually have to grab something and drink it while I shop (and yes I do pay for it).

However the oddest thing happened this winter. I usually had to always sleep with something heavy on me, even during the summer. In the winter I'd sleep in pjs and wake up in the middle of the night sweating to death. I'd have to take them off and sleep with just a light blanked over me.

Even now in the summer I'll have just a sheet over me, where as before I'd have a heavy blanket over me, wearing a t-shirt and shorts. I'd wake up sweating like crazy again end up taking them off and sleep with nothing over me.

I would tell my GP to run the test to play it safe. Even though I am off of Topomax we still do blood work every three months to make sure that the Vimpat is not messing with my kidneys, liver, thyroid, or any other organs.

Which tests should I ask him for?
I did ask him for a thyroid test recently but he said there was no point.

Before I was on the Topamax, I was often too hot even in the cold weather. In fact, there is a picture of where I went to Blackpool where my brothers and sister are wearing jackets because of the cold weather and I'm in shorts and t-shirt.
My GP was aware that I had this problem of getting too hot but didn't do any tests or take any precautions before prescribing Topamax.
