Okay, this is flat-out getting ridiculous. When I first started titrating Lamictal into my system, my doctor said I would be nauseous for the first few weeks, but it should go away once my dosage was above 100 mgs 2x/daily. The goal is 175 2x/daily (which starts tomorrow). I'm still on the Carbamazepine, but am going to start weaning that down tomorrow, as well. I was having other side effects in the beginning, but all of those (except for the nightmares) have subsided.

I'm noticing that if I even get a LITTLE hungry, I get violently nauseous. I've even thrown up once.

Tell me that this is going to go away after the Carbamazepine is out of my system. I don't think I can do this for a lifetime.:crying:

I found that Lamictal side effects reappeared at each dosage change, before eventually lessening as I got used to it. So I'm not sure I agree with your doc's statement. It can help to make sure you have at least some solid food (like half a banana) in your stomach before taking your Lamictal dose.

And ask your neuro about titrating slower, and at smaller doses -- that can definitely help minimize side effects during the ramp-up process. I hope the nausea goes away soon. If it doesn't, Lamictal may not be the right med for you.

My doctor just called to tell me that the Lamictal is therapeutic and that I can start tapering down the Carbamazepine starting tomorrow. I'm hoping that Lamictal is the right drug for me as we are looking to have kids in the near future and this would be the safest drug for me to be on.

I'm glad you can stay at 200mg/day. Hope that does the trick for you, and that the side effects go away. For me the nightmares went away after being at a stable dose for a few months.

I actually am going to be at 175 mg 2x/daily. Hopefully, I'll feel better. I actually don't mind the nightmares so much (I like scary movies, haha). There was only one that frightened me to my core. It felt so realistic and it was that my husband was leaving me.

I just would like to not feel like I'm going to constantly vomit.

I hope the higher dose works for you. Despite what your doctor says, there is no specific therapeutic dose for Lamictal, just a suggested range. And because of the highly-individualized response to Lamictal, many people (such as myself) can fall on either side of that range. The therapeutic dose is whatever works for you.
