Does anyone in the Kitchen know when Lamictal XR will be coming off patent protection? My dose was doubled from 200 mg to 400 mg. My insurance now is trying to get me to stop using the "XR" version, as the non "XR" is already off patent and cheaper. On the older version I was taking one 200 mg tablet in the morning and another one at night. But on that version I had severe insomnia, so they switched me to the "XR" version and I take 2 - 200 mg tablets in the morning. No insomnia. Also no simple partial seizures for 60 days once I started on the 400 mg "XR" dose.
I was told there was a significant price differential, but that the "XR" version was to come off patent "soon", and its price might drop as much as 60%.
The doctor has told the insurance folks that the "XR" version is medically necessary, but they pushed again this month. I just signed up for 3 month mail delivery, which will save some money, both for me and for the insurance. Thank God for the insurance.
