Good morning all, This may not be relative to this medication or not but just wondering if anyone else has had a swelling of the eyes or perhaps dark circles around their eyes from Lamictal (Lamotrigine) or Lyrica? I know they list a ton of side effects from taking certain drugs but I've noticed this when my Lamictal was increased. It may be just age but that's what happens sometimes.
Thanks
DLM

Hi DavidLM --

Lamictal has caused my eyes to be incredibly dry, especially at night. I find I need to put eyedrops in them in the morning because my eyes are practically glued shut. The dryness causes loss of oxygen to the eye, which can lead to more blood vessels in the whites of the eye, and also swelling of the blood vessels beneath the eye (which causes dark circles). When I first went on the Lamictal I remember the feeling that my eyes were swelling. Especially when I would have the "Lamictal Headache."

So yeah, Lamictal may be the cuplrit.

Best,
Nakamova

Thanks Nakamova. Yea, I just started taking them again about a month and a half ago and a female friend I've known for years was kind enough to notice it about a couple weeks ago so I thought it might be relative. I checked it out and it looks like I've been in a fight. And my eyes are very dry as well.

Thanks for the quick response,
DLM

I am on Lamictal. I also have Diabetes. My Diabetes causes the same problem with my eyes. I take zaditor, over the counter, 2 times a day.

I did not know that Lamictal also causes it. I have a double whammy!!

i've just started taking Lamictal...i'll have to watch for that. i could also be getting glaucoma so i'll have to be really careful about the whole eye thing. i really don't need anymore problems than what i already have.

By the way, are all( or any) of you taking Lamictal or Lamotrigine (the generic)? I'm taking Lamotrigine and located in CA. I'm 45 yrs. old so it possibly could be my age - I hate to say, but.....
I'm also wondering if it could just be my vision so, we'll see.

I've been taking the brand name (Lamictal) since last Fall. I'm 44, almost 45, and I can definitely say the Lamictal has affected my eyes and vision.

I have dark circles under my eyes. I am taking a super B complex vitamin. I am not taking Vitamin K, though. I will also try Vitamin K.
