We lowered my dose of tegretol again on Tuesday night. So far so good. The chart says I'm now to stay on this dose til I see my neurologist. No problems so far. With my epilepsy I have never had a seizure while on it. As long as I'm on tegretol I'm safe. As long as I'm on it won't have a seizure. My epilepsy I's hormonal we think as if I get a seizure it's always at a certain time of the month.

Good luck. I am on Tegretol too. I am stabilizing at the moment.

Thank you. They diagnosed my epilepsy quicker than my endometriosis and bad gallbladder. Back to see my neurologist in September.

Buddy's Owner,
Good luck with tapering of the Tegretol, hope it continues to go well. What is the dosage you are on now?

I stopped my morning dose of Tegretol almost 3 weeks ago & so far I have had very minimal side effects. I am still on 200mg Tegretol but I am due to come of the night Tegrteol at the end of this month.

Learn something new every day. I never kne carbatrol was another form if tegretol.

yeah I first started out on Tegretol when I was younger, I was on it for a short time, and then my pediatric neuro switched me over to Carbatrol. He says its processed different, but usually works better for most of his patients.

Well mum says I'm on 100mg but didn't explain it well. It's 200mg broke in half so 100mg in the morning 100mg at night. The next step when I see the neurologist I think will be take me off one dose so I'm only taking 100mg once a day. We checked it was ok to break the tablets first and it's fine. Had no problems. Somebody I know aske why not just take you off right away so I said that's dangerous we have to be weaned off slowly.

When my neuro 1st started reducing my Tergetol in March last year he started of with reducing it from 400mg AM & PM to 200mg AM & PM. I still had plenty of 400mg Tegretol tablets left so asked my neuro if I could just split the 400mg Tegretol tablets. He confirmed that it was fine to just split my 400mg tablets. I've been using a pill splitter to split the 400mg tablets of Tegretol for the last 12 months & haven't had a problem.

:agree:
Its never good to just stop our meds & its better to slowly come of them to reduce the risks of having more seizures.

Was originally on 400 mg am and pm. This is about the same speed we reduced it at last time I think. He wanted to wean me off it a few years back but said he daren't as I was havin tummy trouble one turned out to be endometriosis the other was a bad gallbladder that's now gone. Now epilepsy once I'm off comp, etely I'd appreciate it if you didn't give me any seizures thank you.

Good that you checked about splitting the tablets. It is only the slow release ones you have to worry about. I am on Tegretol SR 200mg tablets and I have 800mg per day which I take 2 tablets morning and night. I was initially told to take three doses a day and split the tablets in half. I ended up nauseus, bad headaches, hangover and extremely drowsy. I checked the side effects of these tablets and it specifically stated NOT to split these tablets in half. I confirmed this with a pharmacist and a doctor. Once I stopped splitting the tablets, no more side effects.

Mine don't say not to split them, I wanted to check just to be safe.

Do you take a magnesium supplement? It's usually recommended for people who have had their gallbladder removed. When you don't have a gallbladder you can develop a severe magnesium deficiency, which in turn can play a role in triggering seizures.

No we did ask about that but they said no as they were confident I wouldn't need it despite the fact they knew I have epilepsy. I couldn't carry on with that stupid gallbladder. It had to go.
