This is probably a really dumb ? but... if you need a med that you know will trigger a seizure would you take it anyway? I am post menopausal & also have interstitial cystitis & lack of estrogen makes it much worse. I have been prescribed bio identical estrogen to apply in a small amount to my urethra. Estrogen is the only thing that has helped but I know when I use it a seizure is in the future. I may get by with a dose or two but it will happen. I can't help but be reluctant to use it. I also have the same problem with other meds. How do you handle these situations?
Thanks.

Is there any way for you to control the possibility of having a seizure if you adjust your diet or include herbal or vitamin supplements? There are natural treatments that work for some of us here, namely B vitamins, minerals... Having to take an extra medication just to cover for the side effect of another medication is something that no one would want to have to go through but if you can find a source as to why estrogen effects you this way then maybe its possible to raise your seizure threshold through natural alternatives..even if it means starting out slowly with your estrogen therapy and gradually increasing the dose over time with doctor supervision

Ask your doc about trying a bioidentical progesterone cream. It can help balance out the higher estrogen levels related to your treatment.

Thanks for your replies. I tried the progesterone & it also seemed to trigger seizures.

That's pretty unusual! Progesterone is an inhibitory hormone -- it calms the brain cells. And it keeps estrogen levels in check and acts as a sedative. So it doesn't make sense for it to increase seizures. Progesterone withdrawal can trigger seizures though.
