Hi
I have had sz for 36yrs now, and throughout these years I have had so many diff. side effects with every new med change. I take lamictal, vimpat, and serquel. I have always taken name brand with each new meds. But for the last 8 months I have really been having problems with my lamital. You see 8 months ago my insurance started given me problems with my lamictal. They stopped given me name brands on this one med, so I had to start taking the generic brand. Ever since this change my sex drive has really gone down. I have not been able to keep a relationship because of this situation. I have been telling my docs about this I told them that there has to be a big diff between the name brand and the generic, because ever since I started taking the generic everything changed I went from a normal sex drive to no sex drive at all. I looked up some research on generic, and name brand and if there's a diff. It turns out that there's a big percentage of diff. between the two. I got back with my doc. about this, and he got intouch with my insurance about giving me name brand again. It wasn't easy though because he had to appeal it. Except even with me taking the name brand again, I have still noticed no diff. I'm very frustrated about this and am at my ropes end. What I would like to no without having to talk to my doc first if having a good sex drive and a normal sex life does it release any stress? which hinse forth help to lower the amount of your sz? I'm sorry if this is too much info. that I'm giving out and too much to even ask such questions? It's just like I said I'm at my ropes. I hope I'll get some more feedback on this!

First off, anything is possible with the meds. Each person reacts differently with different medications. While some give no problems to one person, the same med can be brutual on someone else.

As for generic vs brand name, I have never taken Lamictal, but I can tell you that I took generic Keppra for awhile and it gave me a strange feeling and a light rash. When we switched to the brand name, the rash went away.

There is a difference between generics and brand name, and if you suspect the generic is causing you trouble, your doc should be able to request brand name to your insurance company, saying it is physician required.

I'd talk to your doc about doing something like this. Mine did, and I was able to get brand name Keppra at a lower price as a result of his physican required brand name order to my insurance company.
