Three years ago I had two tonic clinic seizures, and before that hundreds of partial seizures. The partial seizure consisted of Dejavu followed by a rising sensation in stomach. I've been on Keppra since and havent had any issues relating to that.

Anyway, I've been having occasional what I consider migraines over the past few years, and have had two the past two weeks. The migraine consists of an aura, which consists of flashing lights in my vision and lasts about a half hour. After, I get a slight headache in the front of my head that lasts about the rest of the day.

I did talk to my neurologist about this, and he said to just document the migraines. The thing I'm trying to figure out is whether they're truly just migraines or if my medicine is wearing. Right now the weather is changing, and the past two both happened on Saturday, on which I've gotten less then 6 hours of sleep the night before. The other migraines in the past happened on Saturdays as well I believe, so obviously a solution would be not to lose sleep especially during weather changes.

Hey Mike, since migraines and seizures are close cousins (and can co-occur) it can definitely be hard to tell the two apart. What you describe sounds like pretty classic migraine, but your neuro is right to have you keep track of them (as well as possible triggers), and make sure they aren't escalating. As with seizures, migraine triggers can change over time, so you're right to take a closer look at anything that might be playing a role.

I hope your auras are just flukey, and that next weekend is uneventful in that regard. :)

I ware tea shert where migrain is concerne.,Nak I sure won't mind if I slightly disagree but you know when migraine don't need to ask once had never forget. The fear going up from stomach think you going to die and head ache aftrwards for me slightly different. When e head ache not so bad but bad enough but get miserable because then think migrain due.i am using alternative see which is which now.

Well, I experience flashing lights in my vision, I get them daily. Sometimes they only last a minute, sometimes they last like 20mins+.
It's a hard one because they look like ocular migraines, however an MRI has previously revealed some damage to my occipital lobe so they could well be occipital seizures. The ones that last longer are exactly what you're describing, with a mild frontal headache after.

Hi Mike,
I started having migraines and then the seizures started a yr. after. The flashing lights you see are known as optical illusions do to the seizures. What's happening is the seizure is starting in the back of your head in the optic lobe. I have had the same problem as you and when I explained it to my Epileptologist he told me this. I often get headaches when the weather changes and there's a low pressure it also triggers seizures for me. I was told that this happens because the air is heavier during a low pressure and in turn that effects a persons hormones which fire up the neurons in the brain and triggers seizures and headaches. Try the cold water therapy which is putting a cold washcloth on your face and the back of your neck 2-3 times a day and anytime you start to feel a headache or seizure start. I was in a medical study and they found that doing this calms the neurons down in the brain and stops the seizures and headaches. Wishing you the best of luck and May God Bless You!
