I got home from work yesterday. After supper my wife said I was anti social and in a bad mood. I woke up this morning and what did I find? Yesterday morning dose of Lamotrigine. So I went almost 24hrs without my without my lamotrigine. My mood was off and I almost felt jittery. Go from almost no emotion to a cranky moody person. Not fun for my wife, kids, in laws or me.

I on lamactcal it don't do that to me.when have migraine I throw up so don't get meds when that happens..
I ask doctor today about mood swings he said everyone entitled be miserable sod from time to time or we become like clones.
In my humble opinion I would not thought 24hours make much difference but I suspecabl to suggestion so and now you got me thinking maybe it do it to me

How Long Before Missing Meds Is Noticeable?

The way that missing taking a dose of meds happens can be very different for different people! It depends on the half-life of the med(which can vary substantially between meds) and the person's metabolism. People's bodies vary greatly in their rate of metabolism. The half-life of the med can be affected by what the person consumes after taking the med.
Just think about this: Are your meds going to be affected in your stomach if you have eaten peppers and hot sauce or when you have eaten a meal that has no spices in it and is made from milk products?
The way that the foods you eat absorb the meds can affect how fast they are released into your body. If you eat something that can absorb the ingredient(s) in your meds your stomach is going to have to completely digest that food before it can get the results the meds are supposed to have.
This is why a person sees comments on prescription bottles like 'Take with food', 'take with full stomach;. These comments are on these bottles to help the taker prevent having upset stomach or any other problems that may occur if the med isn't taken the waty the comment says.
As far as the amount of time it may take for a person to feel the effects of a med, it may differ for every person. :twocents:
I know that I found that I was allergic to one of the ingredients that a company used as a filler in the Dilantin that they made! All I had to do to stop the allergy was to take a different brand of Dilantin.

How much lamotrigine are you on? I'm on 300mg a day, so by the time I had it was almost 24 hrs. When I googled missed doses the mood stabilizer portion caused mood issues when missed.

Hi gnault,

Many times over the yrs. I have forgotten to take my seizure med, especially in the evening when I'm busy making dinner. I found that if I miss the med sometimes it won't bother me at all but then depending on what time of the yr. it will sometimes make me have seizures. If I forget to take my med and it's only 1-2 hrs. later I will still take it and then I'm fine. I wish you and your family only the best and May God Bless All of You!

Sue

I have missed dosages before. It's usually my morning meds because I'll wake up and have to run to the bathroom then don't realize that I'd not taken it until the next day when I see it in the pill case.

At times it won't bother me and other times I'll have a seizure, usually the next day.

I know what you mean. Last night I worked late.

We were running surveillance on a house. Midnight rolled around and the occupant finally showed up. Turned out the guy we were looking for was in jail already.

I, on the other hand hadn't taken my meds. 1 am rolls around and I take them. I figure I'll wait till tomorrow to take my meds. Of course since it's not on time that I'm taking them (because I'm already lacking sleep and don't want to make myself more tired) late. I forget. So now I'm pretty sure I took them this afternoon, but cant remember. The meds I had set aside to take aren't there, so I'm hoping I took them. I'll be fine. Back on the regular schedule tomorrow. :)

Do you keep your pills in a pill case? That's the best way to know if you've taken them or not. It also makes sure you've taken the right dosage too.

I keep an alarm set on my cell phone so I make sure I take them on time. If I didn't I know I'd be forgetting to take them or I'd be taking them later than I should.

I have a pill case and I still forget. I have a medic a let app but for some reason the reminders don't always show up.

I have washed them down with double whisky before now...Don't do that for me couples won't harm but small glass of wine and I throw up for England so guess what fink says must be right

Missing lamotrigine makes me feel light headed and like I am shifting away, and that is only my morning or evening one. If I miss it for 24 hours I really am feeling like I have a fever, and getting often in the aura mode. :egg:

Ohh the fever thing I never thought of that I get jittery fever thing I did not realise connection

I did it again. I looked in my pill case to take my Sunday morning pills and my Saturday morning pills were still there. Friday to Saturday night with no meds. I think I felt a bit off but not as bad as last time. Almost seems to be happening a little too often.

I so laise fare about my medications this may been some of my health problem.I use think going down with virus when got fever I always forgetting to take them

It's common to miss meds on occations, i do it like once every 2 weeks. I take meds morning, noon and at night. I mostly miss my noon time one. That sometimes makes me also get that jittery feeling. Once i took double my medication, i though i was going to poison myself. :) hahahha I emailed my doc and within 1 hr he came back and told me it would be no big deal. whew.
