Just when I am starting my only seizure free semester of school since Junior year of high school, I get hit w/ Mono. lol. figures. C'mon Junior year of college get better!!!

So I have basically only attended my first week of classes, one class in the middle, and I am expected to attend tomorrow (except) I have a quiz and have NO idea what it is about. I look like **it and don't know how I'm going to make it through an 8-5 day. Not only am I exhausted, but I can't really keep solid-ish food down (i.e. ramen!). I'm off of work (pizza hut cook / reception) for who knows how long. I have to drop a class. 600 dollars down the drain. :(

I celebrated w/ ramen today, only to have it splash back into my face half an hour later. (sorry for the graphic-ness but I kind of have a sense of humor to this whole not keeping food down situation)

Well, I guess this isn't really helping my transition into "normal" life-- but I'm kind of paranoid that my body being all out of whack w/ the steroids (for the mono), the constant IBprofins, AND my seizure meds w/ vitamins (LIKE 25+ pills a day)...yeah I'm paranoid that I'm just going to remain sick for the rest of my days lol. My liver has some weird level and I have to go back to the hospital for bloodwork...YAY! :) :) lol It just never ends for us epileptics does it?!

So has anyone had Mono and Epilepsy...if so Give me Pointers! Advice! Love! Liquidish food recipes that I can keep down! One can only eat so much pudding. lol...but seriously I'm kind of freaked out since I keep boaking every day near the time I take my meds. I don't want my seizures to come back!!!

Thanks for your time and consideration! God Bless!
(hope i didnt gross you all out too much :))

I am sorry to hear of this! I've never had that or never really known what it is. I definately would keep in mind about meds. If your hawking a lot but taking meds, you may not really be getting the meds you need- or keeping them down. I would make sure to go to E.R. if you have seizures becuase they can check your levels and give you meds another way IV or something if you can't keep them down.
I remember the days of living in college. Just graduated in Dec. with a B.A. and we ate lots of pizza, ramen soup, sandwhiches, we cooked a lot out of our toastere oven lol.
You might try drinking a decent amount of Gatoraid since it has lots of good stuff in it to keep your body hydrated, try eating some crackers or cookies slowly, drink plenty of water but not too much and try not to have too much soda or coffee.
I had the stomach flu twice and it was living he** LOL. I went to E.R. for that and was totally miserable. I really hope you feel better soon.
Oh, you might try some mashed potato- has startch and is sort of filling too. Oh and don't have too much dairy. Kinda gets your stomach going with the acids etc.

I wish I could help out more. You might research Mono and there might be a website with tips or info on it.

Take care, feel better.

I had that once in my 20's and don't think I've ever been quite so sick. My throat hurt so bad I couldn't even swallow water. I hope you have a quick recovery.

I had mono when I was in high school. I could only eat tiny meals at any given moment, otherwise I would lose my lunch, same as you Jackie. I recommend several very small meals a day, as many as you can handle. I ate things like crackers and applesauce until I recovered. (I did end up losing a few pounds, although they came back later :) Also, stay away from fatty foods and alcohol. You probably are already, but those foods stress the liver, which is already under siege because of the mono infection.

I'm sorry but I'm still none the wiser? From the description it either sounds like tonsilitis or strep throat both of which I've had numerous times. Is it either of those things or something else? ok just looked at the link....Glandular fever. YUK! my friend had this when we were 16 she was ill for what seemed like forever. I hope you feel better soon.

Infectious mononucleosis is an infectious, very widespread viral disease caused by the Epstein-Barr virus. Mononucleosis has a set of common symptoms that are usually presented in the individual with the disease. The classical symptoms are a sore throat, fever, fatigue, weight loss, malaise, pharyngeal inflammation and petechiae, and common signs include lymphadenopathy (enlarged lymph nodes), splenomegaly (enlarged spleen), hepatitis (refers to inflammatory cells in the liver) and hemolysis (the bursting of red blood cells)

Streptococcal pharyngitis or streptococcal sore throat (strep throat AmE) is a form of group A streptococcal infection[1] that affects the pharynx and possibly the larynx and tonsils.

Tonsillitis is an infection of the tonsils and will often, but not necessarily, cause a sore throat and fever. Symptoms of tonsillitis include a severe sore throat (which may be experienced as referred pain to the ears), painful/difficult swallowing, coughing, headache, myalgia (muscle aches), fever and chills. Tonsillitis is characterized by signs of red, swollen tonsils which may have a purulent exudative coating of white patches (i.e. pus). Swelling of the cheeks and neck may occur.

Ooooooooo, what

a bummer deal, Eyes! I wish I could give you some (((HUGS))) right now. Try to rest, though, and PLEASE try to eat. Even if it's only the soft things, like applesauce, pudding, mashed potatoes, tapioca, popsicles.......

:paperbag:

Take care.

oh it is def mono...spot test said so.

The steroids paired w/ a ton of motrin (eep scary damage they can do to you --but amazing to swallow again).

I ate solid food today! I had a whole half of sandwich. AMAZING. :)

I had to quit my job at cook job at pizza hut cuz i'll be out for 2 months (it's a really bad fight i'm having w/ mono! but i will win :) :) )They were really nice! Told me I will always have a position available for me. I had to drop a class that dealt w/ food. Boohiss. There goes 600 bucks. BUT i'm eating and will attend class soon. :)

Thank you all for your support, links, and advice. It's nice to hear from people whilst shelled up in my room!

I'm glad you're able to get a little food in your system. Your body WILL heal, but you have to take it slowly and not overdo as you start to regain strength. When I had mono, I missed the last part of the summer (boo!) and the first month of school (yay!). But there have been no lasting effects.
